Currently, Plex pings the network for SSDP-related devices and the result is a chatty log as well as a feature that might not be needed for some (most?) networks.
It would be great to turn this off.
Additionally, another consideration is that these pings are indeed recorded in logs, so that whenever someone shares their Plex logs on these forums, anyone who downloads them can get a good idea of what their network topology/membership looks like. Not exactly ideal from a security perspective.
In any case, this seems like a feature annoyance that should be able to be toggled off if it is not used and/or desired in Plex’s settings.
This constant SSDP related chatter is degrading my Wifi. For years I haven’t been able to stream videos (using AirPlay) from devices to my Apple TV without them being annoyingly choppy. After I discovered this chatter and shut down Plex, the problem went away. I will try to filter the SSDP requests through a smart switch, but it would be much simpler if I could turn off the SSDP discovery in Plex for good.
