Many of us have our own Plex servers and some can even be accessed from outside our home networks using VPNs and/or specific domain names. Direct connections from the mobile Apps to the server are far faster and more reliable than the relay connection through Plex.tv servers and would reduce the load on those servers for those who really need them.
The problem is that the current Manual connections only allow inputting IP addresses. We need to have the ability to simply put in a valid URL. For example: plex.domainname.com. Currently access using the Web interface works perfectly using a dedicated URL.
I am assuming that this URL connection is stable. That is, the user has setup their own domain and assigned a sub-domain to their Plex server. Other considerations are needed if a VPN is being used given the fixed PORT requirement for Plex server.
