PS3 Audio Channels Incorrect

As a normal test to ensure my amp is receiving the correct signal I tested the latest version of the plexapp on ps3 and found AC3 5.1 channels are reencoded incorrectly… Centre is in the right speak right in centre etc. Tried same via Chromecast and channels are good so it’s not the file. Other apps like blinkbox or Netflix appears to be fine.

Can you test and see if its just me ?

Hi thr0tt, please post the media analysis for the file you're testing.

I remember reading somewhere, that for now you need to uncheck dolby digital (ac3) option in the PS3 plex app. I remember reading that and the reason was it is currently not working correctly. Is this still true?

Attached.

Ahh ha, post above about ac3, if ticked it works correctly, untucked then speakers all over the place. Is this a feature that will be ironed out ?

I haven't found an error in my testing. Need some sample files to recreate the issue.

Untick amp can do ac3 in the app on ps3 and the file I attached will not play on the right speakers.

I’ve tested this on both my ps3’s and my Sony amp and Yamaha amp, both do exactly the same.

I am having the same problem with several AAC 5.1 files on my PS3. Dialog appears in the right channel and the center channel is silent.

I am running Plex Server 0.9.11.16 on Windows. and PS3 Plex app v2.3.22, both of which I believe are the latest.

Also, the 'AC3 5.1' setting appears to have vanished from my Settings page on the PS3 app as well, which is really unusual. I checked it before and tried turning it on and off.

If I stream the same file from the same PC running Tversity, it plays fine on the PS3 in 5.1 surround.

Media file analysis attached.

Not to hijack. But my AC3 receiver option is gone and no I am transcoding audio to AAC as well.

I was using Plex 09.11.13 on Mac and just went to 09.11.16 on linux.... just for more information.

and I just noticed my app was updated to 2.3.22. I suspect Plex has either taken AC3 support away or broken it as it was working BEFORE the 19th of March when this version came out.

AC3 support wasn't removed but the ability to select it was gone for a bit. We fixed the bug as soon as we spotted it.

Regarding multichannel mapping in general, I've file an issue to retest multichannel audio - particularly to determine if multichannel AAC and AC3 channels are mapped correctly.

I updated my server to Plex Server 0.9.11.17 and this issue isn’t resolved.

any ETA for an update?

PS3 client updated to 2.3.25 but I’m still seeing this issue.

No sorry no ETA yet. It's in our list of issues to investigate. We'll get to it as soon as we can. Promise.

Yup, just tried the app for the first time and the first two files I played exhibited this behavior. Sony amp.

Same issue here, if I have ac3 checked in settings I get no sound in my center channel while playing 5.1 content.

Same issue here, using sony Amp.  I know you said it would be addressed but just wanted to confirm that dialog comes from Front Right channel.

Any update to this issue? It’s been ongoing for nearly six months! A large amount of content on my PS3 is unwatchable as a result.

I resolved this issue by going to my Plex media server>Settings>Web>Player>Show Advanced and uncheck the box for “Allow Direct Play of AC3 Audio”.

Now my audio seems to be coming out of the proper channels. I guess this change forces Plex to transcode the AC3 audio, as the PS3 does not handle AC3.
