Hello, I’m just experimenting with Plex here. I set up a Plex Media Server, and am streaming to a PS3. Playback starts smooth then suddenly keeps freezing, and resuming randomly. The PS3 reports a network error when this happens. I’m using the same PC with PS3 Media Server streaming to the PS3 and playback is flawless so I’m pretty positive my network is just fine. I’m a little concerned as I just ordered a Roku XS to use with Plex and I hope it doesn’t have the same freezing issues. Any suggestions?
What format are your videos?
They are mostly 720p and some 1080p .MKV files that were remuxed with mkv2vob. (Before I heard of Plex I had no option but to remux every media file as the PS3 would not playback MKV natively).
I also find that FFW/FRW functions are not working at all using Plex, whereas those functions work ok while using PS3 Media Server.
I want to get rid of PS3 Media Server but I need Plex to be solid for me first...
I have no issues streaming to my PS3 or Apple TV as I have converted all of my .MKV files to .MP4. I have found that by doing this I am able to stream to almost any device I have whether on the Intra/Internet.
Try using the Interfaced plugin within PS3/Universal Media server, the plugin will host your Plex library through that server.This way you have the library organized within Plex and served/transcoded through PS3/Universal Media server.
