I subscribed for Plex Pass so I can get a nice interface to use on the Playstation instead of going through the DLNA. After subscribing I downloaded and linked the PS3 App. Now almost everything I watch through the App buffers every few mins, it usually buffers for several seconds to minutes.
I have since gone back to using the DLNA menu as I never had any issues with buffering through that interface. I only subscribed for Plex Pass so i could use the PS3 app but as of right now its completely unusable for watching any videos.
same problem on my Ps3 always buffering , unwatchable ,using ethernet cable (which on the Roku shows a available bandwidth of 95mbps) no direct Play option and no hi res audio on a device designed to play blu ray files is absurd in my opinion. so far only one device will play files in their full glory using Plex . the popcorn hour A-400/410, Plex is amazing but the PS3 version is a let down out of the gate.
Same with me. I use multiple devices including Android, iPad, Chromecast, web browsers etc. all flawlessly. The PS3 app buffers every couple of minutes and I can’t find a fix. PLEASE update and correct this.
Same issue with PS4 app, purchased PlexPass just for this only to find out that on my gigabit backbone home network the PS4 Plex App plays for 4 or 5 seconds and then buffers for 30 to 60 seconds, then repeats. Same using the app on my daughters PS3 (DLNA on PS3 works fine). I have several Windows and Android devices that play fine even on my wireless.
Has there been any response from Plex people addressing this issue?
Ok. It seems that if I uncheck the Audio Receiver Supports AC-3 box in Settings it not only stops the stuttering it actually sends the signal so the receiver plays it in Dolby Digital surround. Maybe something with how I have the PS3 audio out settings? Now to get the PS3 app to do trailers, channels and DTS (again)!
Same problem with XBOX ONE with some small mp4 video files (TV episodes) averaging at 200MB.
It's weird, but it's really random performance. Some times a heavier file (i.e. a full 720p movie) will work, and other lighter files don't.
I've troubleshooted to the extent that I've tried bypassing/changing routers (I don't have one that supports Jumbo Frames), but I don't have the network skills to find the bottleneck...!
I've had the same problem lately. Lots of buffering and timing out, or no video just audio. Turning off Allow Direct Play and Allow Direct Stream fixed both issues.
Same here, cant watch anything on plex, netflix and youtube are fine, plex just buffers every 10 seconds when set watching a blueray mkv (24gb file) PS3 set to 4mbps 720 on a 76mbps line, direct play and stream enabled. Please fix this. I cant be bothered to go into the attic to get the original disc
Looking at getting a smart tv instead to be honest and just using the ps3 are a games console.
I had a buffering problem playing video’s on my phone and.kept trying different settings on the phone app to try and solve it. couldn’t get it to play direct until I changed the following settings. go to settings and choose advanced than choose player and change settings to direct stream and then the one that worked and got everything playing correctly was to change " H264 maximum level" from the recommended setting of 4.0 down to 3.2 hopes this helps someone !
