PS4 Plex App Version 3.00 Direct Play buffer timeout since Nov 8th update

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621 Updated Nov. 17
Player Version#: PS4 Plex App Version 3.00

PS4 OS Version 11
Plex Server on Win11 i7 8th Gen, about 5 year old laptop.
Main Movie Directory on older NAS, but has been working great the last couple of years.

I believe I am experiencing the same thing reported elsewhere. But could not find a good starting thread so making my own.

I was going nuts since I’m working a lot on my server right now, and been seeing a lot of buggy things stopping me. At first I thought I was trying to encode and play too much at the same time, so I stopped and only allowed my laptop to do one operation at a time.

I thought there was something I did to break my server settings, and I have been troubleshooting a lot, but now that I see other users having the same issue please someone help.

It started with spinning circle while buffering in the PS4 Plex App. Then buffer timeout error. Sometimes while playing within the PS4 app it would crash the app and give the PS blue screen general app error CE-34878-0. Rebooting both PS4 and Plex Server seemed to bring back stability.

It has been very buggy with PS4 app, some videos loading ok on direct play, some not, seems to correspond to Nov. 8th update, and that is the same day from the other post I found here. Today, nothing will play direct, even files I know were playing direct before, and now keeps crashing my PS4 app, like completely blue screen message every time, whereas before it would at least timeout and give plex error after reboot, and some other new error messages today. Almost seems like it corresponds to the November 8 update to version 3.0. I was able to get videos to transcode, by manually deselecting Direct Play and Direct Stream, then I tried leaving Direct Stream selected, this seemed to work OK too.

Today, the PS4 App keeps crashing when I try to play a video. Even after rebooting both my laptop and restarting the PS4.

Previous resolution stated just deselect Direct Play and Direct Stream. I don’t want to have to transcode everything now, my laptop is too old. So I need a better resolution that that.

I thought the new version of PS4 app 3.00 needed the new version of Plex Server, so I completed that update just a couple days ago, and now, I think that really killed it here. Something is not right. Anyone have a real fix? Does anyone know how to roll back to a previous release? Either PS4 and/or Server.
Any Plex Gurus paying attention?

The other thing I’ve seen which could be related or not, but is the first message that pops up in the console when starting a direct play session, is an error stating “unable to find client profile for device: PS4”

This is my first ever message on the forum, so bear with me, I’m new. Thank you.

I encode my videos to use MP4 containers with H.264 codec, 30 FPS or less, encoder version 3.1. AAC audio. Only shooting for basic 480p super high quality encode, which had been working wonderfully. No issue, always direct plays on my home network at various bitrates usually about 4 or 5 mbps or less for video, so very modest rates.

Videos play fine in the web browser on this laptop running the server to date, even after above noted issues.

This is definitely a PS4 app specific issue.

I have log files I could share direct with trusted support person. Thank you, Steve.
