Player Version#: don’t see it on pc but ps4 has latest version of the app installed
Some reason for the past few days my Plex on my playstation has decided to freeze up and load slowly. I cut it on the other day and it froze with the yellow/orange circle half way turning… I tried restarting my ps4, my pc, my router. Eventually tried removing the ps4 from authorized devices and reinstalled the app which seemed to work BUT it still took what felt like 15 minutes just to load. It keeps saying something about having two servers. Ig its talking about loading mine and Plex’s general server and to pick one or something. The whole process takes forever just to get to my server and load up.
If I close the app after this the whole thing will start again and I’ll have to reinstall, relink and wait forever for it to load and sometimes it takes MULTIPLE reinstalls and relinks to finally work… I figured I would send something to support about this so they can fix it for console users because I can’t see how I can be the only one with this issue. The only thing that has changed is I have a few more movies on there than usual but…I assume since its technically streaming and not dling all that data it wouldn’t matter how much I have or not…
If this isn’t the right place to report this please let me know. It’s kind of ridiculous going through this every day for 30 minutes to an hour just to get something to load up so I can watch what I’ve saved.
Ps: not sure if helpful but also when it’s “loading” the circle freezes or the options to continue stay on the screen as if my ps4 is frozen but it’s not. I don’t even hear the ps sound when I try to hit any of the keys…but give it 15 mins and the next screen will pop…
Be interested to see how you go with this, I have always found the console versions slow and laggy. The PS4 version also always crashed on me too and would often crash mid episode. TBH I found it unusable.
It used to work fine. Every once in awhile it might crash or load a bit slow but it worked consistently…now it’s telling me my server is offline. I’ve tried putting a password on it as well as the relink and reinstall over and over. It’s still laggy taking 15 mins just to get to a screen to tell me I have to retry connection… The funny thing is it works perfectly fine on my Fire Cube and my phone so it has to be something with the console version?..
I found mine worked fine until I swapped my console out and went from a wired to wireless. I tried to watch a 1080p movie and it would buffer every 10 seconds or so. Lowering the quality to 720p allowed it to stream normally.
The actual loading is longer than it used to be, but I’m not getting times like what the thread starter is posting.
Games are running fine, been playing Spiderman with no issues. Been watching Disney+ and Youtube without issues either.
I’ve always been wireless with it and it’s too far to make it wired. I also can’t just change consoles… The issue isn’t even a matter of loading now its not even finding my server to be online yet my other devices see it.
I don’t really know what to do as I’ve done all the things that worked for it previously. Does Plex not have an actual support team to send this to?
I just turned of secure connection feature in the network options as well as connected to the wifi on my laptop (even tho its always been ethernet) and nooooow…it has finally loaded. Idk if this is a fake out or not but we’ll see how it goes.
Its a GB connection, Plex works fine via phone or computer, so it is the PS4 app. There should be no reason I can’t fast forward through a show without having to wait ages for it to catch up and start playing (or just crash as it regularly does). Tried streaming 320kbps music last night and gave up after constant buffering.
Been paying Plex Pass for years but the latest payment will be the last.
There has been more than enough time to get this working right.
So I did go back and check out the PS4 app after having not used it in forever and was pleasantly surprised the current app is quite good and runs really well. Like I was genuinely shocked at just how much better it is now.

Full transparency, I am using a crusty old base PS4 (the arkham knight one) and it is hard wired via gigabit into the same network as my plex server.
Very interesting this thread - I also have an extremely slow Plex app , all connected via LAN in an internal Network - server on a laptop and storage on a synology and it is taking minutes between each action.
Even Troubleshooting is challenging.
It’s a relieve seeing other users experimenting the same frustation while using plex on playstation 4.
I use it wireless, it is very slow to start up, navigation trhough media freezes, impossible to jump into the video, it would freeze forever.
Is it a problem of the playstation version of plex?
Btw I use others plex client (iphone) without any problem and my PS4 works well with youtube and videogames (Horizons…)
