I’ve just installed Plex on my PS4 to see if it’s a good replacement for plugging my laptop into the TV.
Having tried to play four different videos (two TV shows and two movies) from my remote server nothing happens. The screen goes black, the name of the show / movie appears top left then nothing. No buffering, no feedback. Eventually the client gives up and displays a timeout message of ‘There was a problem playing this item. The video did not start playing in time.’
All videos that I’ve attempted playback with on the PS4 playback fine using the web player in chrome on my laptop. I’ve tried toggling direct play, direct stream and AC3 audio on and off in PS4 plex settings and it doesn’t help.
No known issues with the server using other players (iOS, web, Roku). I have never received complaints from family related to videos not playing remotely either. Note that none of my family uses a PS4 for playback this is a first. Interestingly when I attempt playback from the PS4 the ‘playing now’ page on my server reports playback coming from chrome!?
PS4 is wired to router. I’ve attached a log which appears to have some PS4 warnings / errors.
