The idea of binge watching the Simpsons on a Sunday morning with the kids sounds great
+1 love the idea
+1 for this.
Be sure to actually vote. Typing plus +1 doesn’t count towards a vote. Just saying for the people who might not know.
I’ll admit, it did not read every comment in this thread, there are so many. And therefore, some things may be covered. In the comments.
About a year ago I started thinking about the same thing. I just wasn’t sure if anyone else would have interest in it. See, I grew up during the time that we had Old B/W CRT TV’s and then came along Cable with it’s grid format for a guide. It seems the younger generation prefers this new layout of having to search for something to watch instead of having it queued in the grid.
But this thread seems to have taken many steps further than my thoughts. I simply copied the screens Plex already had and modified them as needed.
I put in channel numbers with a thought of the future voice commands of “Tune to channel 3”. The call sign was added as a description to what the channel was about.
As you can see, my thought was NOT to have you already in the middle of the show when the list is presented. Start the episode and show how long the it is. Sometimes I only have 30 minutes to sit and watch. Allow navigation to something else later in time in case you don’t want to see what is on now.
Let me explain the various type of stations that could be created could be as I have shown. NEW would be anything you just added to Plex. CBS would be limited to only shows in your library that would air on CBS. KIDS would be limited by the rating of the show. BOND would be only the James Bond series of movies. TREK is a mixture of the series (any of them) and the movies. TAXI would be only the TV series (options could allow play in order or play randomly, some people seem to like it randomly). And of course, you create music stations like ROCK. You may even want to create a PICT station where it would be a slideshow of your photograph album (in options you could assign a background music to play). Most of these could be controlled by simply adding them to folders and only include that folder (like the James Bond films could reside in a separate folder in your library).
I wanted to keep it simple because that is a good place to start, work out any bugs and then add features. Not all the feature I mentioned about was implemented into the example I have shown.
But I certainly do like the icon added idea.
Voted for this, as it would be nice to not think of that to watch just click on a channel and veg out.
Plus side for plex from a business stand point is if users wanted to include commercials, they could offer preset commercial genres ie retro, scifi ,current, trailers etc and profit from the views. Users also have the option of creating their own commercial library or no commercials at all.
I too would love to have a PseudoTV feature within PLEX. It would be my number one feature request. Been wanting this option for years. If PLEX staffers are reading this thread; I implore you to see about making this feature a reality.
Thank you for your attention and thank you for all your work on making PLEX what it is.
The reason I only just now paid for PLEX is that it was missing this feature, I would have purchased PLEX years ago had it got this feature.
Bump, would love such a feature.
+1 This would be awesome
I’d very much like to see PseudoTV on Plex.
Looks like some of the work has already been done…
Just remove the RaspberryPi’s and incorporate the code.
At the very least, they should change “shuffle” to “random” for video formats, and exclude the next ep from on deck.
@dvertz what are you using to create these “channels”?
+1 really want this feature
If the playlist feature could be better managed by uploading a playlist as a text file, csv or xml then we would be set.
I believe that plex can already do this in the version you market to broadcasters.
+1 for this feature.
Maybe we can crowdfund/bugbounty or donate or something like that to get this feature developed with use of the tvheadend or something like that.
This is the ultimate feature to cut the cord.
If you do not know what to watch out of all the things in your collection you could just tune in, in one of your virtual/emulated channels…
How is this not a feature already!? We need this!
