publish server via IPv6

No there isn’t. And as I said myplex can’t connect to your plex server as long as You’re using ds lite with a native v6 adress.

Its all starting to come back to me.  We I looked at this around 18 months ago there was work progressing on something called the Port Control Protocol which was supposed to allow the DS-Lite IPv4 address you are being allocated and the external port on that address that your request has been allocated to be available programatically.  There was even talk of a NAT-PMP -> PCP bridge that would allow dynamic management of these port maps.

With DS-Lite you still have access to an IPv4 address but it may be shared with more than one user.  I always envisaged providing a portal interface where users could request their own Portmaps for DS-Lite just like you might do on your own router but instead working in conjunction with the ISPs CG-NAT platform.

Do any of the German ISPs provide this kind of access or even talk about Port Control Protocol?

Not yet, as far as I know that hasn’t even been finalized yet

It isn't just the German ISPs that would like this (although they're in a worse situation than me).  My IPv4 link to my Plex servers sometimes is buggy and/or slow (I think I may be getting QoSed at some times).  It generally comes good after a couple days (and I think the problem happens hops beyond my ISP), but it's still annoying when I'm trying to watch stuff.  I have noticed that IPv6 to my servers is awesome while the IPv4 is slow, so it'd be good if Plex supported publishing a server on both stacks, and trying IPv6 first, then IPv4.  Or have it as an option for me.  Either way, I'd love it!

Why doesn't DSlite work?

If you go to what is my ipaddress website what IPv4 address do you see?

Is there a process from your ISO to perform a DSlite portmap?

Nope, you share one routed IPv4 address with many of the ISP's customers. What should the ISP do if several of his customers want the same port mapped? Which customer would get the port? The one that requested it first? Sure they could work with something like IP pools but why would they. The world is moving towards IPv6 and DSlite is just a transitioning technology. Plex should just go with the times and implement IPv6 support in myPlex. And of course they will once IPv6 becomes more and more mainstream. It's probably just not high priority right now because there's virtually zero customer demand (as you can see by the few pages this topic has generated since it's original post two years ago).

I'm sure it'll come eventually. Until then there's a bunch of inconvenient workarounds for the technically inclined.

I dont understand this comment DS-Lite gives you IPv4 access via your native IPv6 address MyPlex can connect IF (and its a big if) there is a port mapping in place that will allow the traffic to flow and that the Plex registration process can determine the correct IPv4.  Given the registration request is over http: then the source address of the registration request will have the correct IPv4

The challenge as I see it is getting the port mapping in place - Port Control Protocol is supposedly the answer

Thats right, but the port cant be forwarded to your ipv4 endpoint as of now yet on german providers. We all know that PCP is the answer to all these problems. The point is just that there is no port control protocol used by the ISPs yet

... The point is just that there is no port control protocol used by the ISPs yet

and I ever doubt that German ISPs will ever implement PCP. Why should they?

At the very end IPv6 will come. Better sooner than later. So I I'm wondering why MyPlex does not support 100% IPv6. As I said in my previous post, I'm lucky enough that I did not sign yet a lifetime pass. But If MyPlex will start to support IPv6, I will be happy to join this community and software. Until then, it is a no go! Why shall I pay for something that does not work for me, (or for many others like me in specific countries).

my 2cents

I think the challenge here is that for this to work everything client wise will also need to support IPv6.  As I remember NAT between IPv6 and IPv4 is a pretty heavy protocol to implement and would be needed to allow IPv4 clients to talk to your IPv6 server.  Mobile networks here in the UK are still mostly running NAT444 (ie. Double Nat) using multiple class A private address pools.

Is there not an option with your ISP to pay extra for a Dual Stack service in the medium term, until something more robust comes along.

How are gamers in Germany handling this situation - most games consoles rely quite heavily on UPNP and full cone NAT??

Not on all providers no. Or let us put it this way, some providers allow you to book the business plan to get native ipv4 back (no Dual Stuck at all) costing like 50 euros more with less up/downstream rates :)

And about gaming, sony and xbox both support full ipv6. If I remember correctly Microsoft even encourages you to use ipv6.

Hi guys,

I faced the same problem since I switched to a Kabel Deutschland DS-Lite cable connection. My Plex is running on a QNAP NAS behind a FritzBox Cablebox. After a little research I found the solution for me:

I created a universal portmapper on feste-ip.net, that routes my external IPv6 address to an external IPv4 address provided by feste-ip.net. Of course I needed to create a MyFritz connection and an IPv6 forwarding in the FritzBox as well, but this is quite straightforward.

nas.xyz.myfritz.net:32400 <-> nas.feste-ip.net:23425 <-> mycustom.subdomain.de

So now I can logon with mycustom.subdomain.de/web and my Plex login.

The service is not very expensive, so while wating for a solution from the Plex team, you can go with this workaround!

I am happy to help if some of you have questions regarding this solutions.

Kr, Klaus

this isnt really a workaround. This is just a fix to get access through the webapp, not iOS apps and myplex :)

The need for a full IPV6 support is here and it will grow faster and faster with the amounts of internet users rising and amount of ipv4 adresses in use are maxed out.

Plex have get it to work with the web app and the mobile apps or i have to move on to another media server solution that works.

My guess why not many people are posting about this problem is thats its not very obvious why its not working and they do not like to try for 20 hours to fix it until they find out that plex is missing real IPV6 support.

There really has not been any updates on this in month... would be really nice if the Plex team could get around to this. After all, it will affect more and more people - many of whom just wont figure out, that IPv6 is the issue here...

My ISP (WebPass in San Francisco) transitioned to IPV6 and my Plex stopped being accesible outside of my network. Seems that some people here are having the same problem. Would be nice if Plex fixes this...

Is there any other workaround in the meantime?

There is a Feature Request open on this. Please go vote! Like the first post on that thread.    https://forums.plex.tv/topic/71546-ipv6-support-for-myplex/

I also really hope that get fixed soon… Im also affected and cant use my plex subscription well.

Has there been any update on this? I really need it.

Yeah I really need native support for this too. My iSP (WebPass) just moved me over to IPv6 and I’m stuck in the water right now. I really hope this makes it up the priority list, it shouldn’t be hard to implement.

Stuck here as well… any news yet? Just paid on my iPhone app but can’t use it. Went through all troubleshooting but no luck…
