works fine under software, but with hardware turned on, 10bit fails. 8bit works fine.
tested with emby under hardware, and plays 10bit fine.

Not really an Apples / Oranges problem.
Given it states hevc profile 2, the ASIC doesn’t support HDR (it isn’t a -7xxx processor)
Plex not falling back to software is a known problem and hopefully being fixed in the next transcoder update.

thanks for reply. when ive tested the same files with Emby, it states its transcoding to x264 with hardware?
any idea when the next transcoder update is coming?
The Engineering update is largely done already
We are already regression testing the transcoder update to make sure nothing has been missed as well as testing the changes to PMS for the new transcoder and drivers.

any idea why i can hardware transcode 10bit h265 to x264 with Emby, but not with Plex?
PMS is failing at the decode-fallback stage.
Emby isn’t hardware decoding either. The CPU isn’t capable of it.

Is the proof. That is the error code from the ASIC itself through VAAPI.
Both are capable of hardware encoding to H.264.
The only reason you see success on Emby is because it’s not failing to fallback to SW encode.
This is one of the problems which will be fixed in the upcoming update.
