Forgot to add: My NAS system is a QNAP 253A with the latest firmware and PMS (as of 03/05/2018). My endgoal here is to get media with DTS to transcode with hardware transcoding (preferably using plex).

HW transcoding requires a PlexPass subscription of some kind. Your model is already supported for HW transcoding so you just need the plex pass license.

QNAP HW Transcoding (VideoStation, etc.) DOES work as long as you video file doesn’t leverage an audio codec/format that requires a licensing fee (AC3/Dolby and DTS). So if your video file had 2-channel audio, then you would likely be able to HW transcode it leveraging the native QNAP sw.
