Interesting, The version I installed from the Qnap forum didn’t help with transcoding.
I haven’t had the chance to test the version from qnap forum, do you still have this up and running ? Which version is it?
Based on the initial testing feedback, the hw acceleration didn’t appear to be working with the test version.
Agreed, I didn’t see any transcoding improvement with the posted beta. I don’t have the version anymore.
HW transcoding would be fantastic! I just picked up a QNAP TS-453A and would love to use it’s built in 4K hardware transcoder. Do we know if Plex plans to still add the support? I think it’s “the future” as media transcoder chips take off a ton of load on the CPU/GPU.
there is no response from a straff member, not here or on the Plex pass member forum. I don’t know if this will come true.
but I hope it will, that would be the best update since months
Bump! Also very interested. Real-time 720P decoding seems to stutter.

The stuttering depends on what model QNAP (i.e.CPU) you have.
that’s true, but with HW transcoding there is a lot of cpu time that can be saved…
One day…one day…
Help me Plex QNAP Hardware Transcoding…you’re are only hope!
They going to have to do something 4k is here to stay and Plex going to need all the help it can get to transcode it
maybe we will get more attention by a plex staff when bumping up the corresponding thread in the plex pass area:
It’s finally here:
Not quite working out of the box for QNAP though…
It works… Settings > transcode > Use hardware acceleration when available (Experimental)
how the hell did i miss that XD
I don’t see that…
Server > transcoder > Use hardware acceleration when available (Experimental) is the correct location
Hrmm, I don’t have that. I have the TS-451 which has Intel Quicksync. I’ll try restarting the NAS.
Ha! Had to stop and restart the app then the option showed up.
not showing up on my TS-251, even after restarting the nas.
What nas do you have @dsp5500 ?
`chmod 0770 /dev/dri/renderD128`
chmod: /dev/dri/renderD128: No such file or directory
chmod 0770 /dev/dri/controlD64
chmod 0770 /dev/dri/card0
worked fine.
I’m on QTS 4.2.2 20161214
