I’ve been testing different combinations to try to narrow down what might be causing Plex to crash. I disconnected my External Backup Drive (Which I have set to run on a nightly schedule) and Plex did not crash for 72 hours!! I re-connected the drive tonight and Plex crashed within a couple of hours.
I was wondering if others here have an external drive plugged into their TS-231 and if so, maybe try running with it disconnected and see what happens.
I have the TS-231 and that’s not my issue. I have created a discussion on the same issue in this thread and included my log files. No one has responded yet.
Here are my recent logs from my freshly built Plex server. It just crashed again and I’m still not sure why. I’m on the TS-231 with the latest PMS version installed. Please guys… any help is appreciated. I really would appreciate help to get my Plex server up and running.
Over 24 Hours and no Crash since disconnecting the External Drive again… not sure why or how, but that seems to be the only variable that is causing my Plex to crash.
ergibson83,
I am not skilled enough to troubleshoot your error logs but someone else here might be able to.
Sorry, but those logs are not enough, since I need special logs to hand over to the developers…
However, already got a few people collecting those, so sadly all I can tell you guys to do, is to watch this thread, and I’ll return with info as soon as I can.
Note though, that after getting the logs, devs have to work on this, and there’s no ETA
@dane22 Thank you. Please let me know what additional logs you need and I’m more than happy to get them for you. I thought I gave you all the logs PMS produces.

You did, but I need to run PMS in a special way, gathering stack traces and console logs as well.
If the others don’t work out, I’ll reach out for you, as next in line
Add one more person to the Plex/Qnap issue. I have the TS-231 (not the +), and Plex constantly crashes on me, too. I’ve tried I don’t know how many versions of Plex, updated the TS-231 to the 4.2 beta (I was using 4.1 and figured I’d give the beta a shot).
It seems that it crashes while updating the library.
This is frustrating, to say the least. I’d love to run this as a Plex server, and I’d be willing to go in for a Plex Pass, but no way will that happen with this crashing issue.
Hi folks. I am also seeing this on my TS-231. I am happy to get my hands dirty and help debug – no issues SSHing in and tinkering with Linux underneath. Let me know via PM what you’d like to see and I’ll do my best to make it happen. Anything to get this issue iced!
I tried unplugging my external USB disk and also uninstaling/reinstaling v0.9.12.11.1406-8403350_arm-x31 and it ran for several hours. I actually thought it was resolved! Alas, no good. It’s now unavailable again. I’m happy to clear out the logs and repro with whatever extra parameters you want so we can troubleshoot.
If there is indeed a fix in the works, a little transparency here would be great. Plex folks are so great at supporting such a wide variety of platforms and that is no small task! This seems to be a big deal though on a very popular NAS which is otherwise excellent.

I agree, I think a team needs to just focus on the QNAP area seems to have gotten worse as of late. Making updates to such a variety of platforms is indeed a tough task.
