QNAP TS-453AG4 Plex Home Theater & OpenPHT

Hi Guys,

you are more or less my last chance to solve my problem  First of all, I want to excuse my english but I am from Austria (not Australia:)

A few days ago, I bought a QNAP TS-453A with 4 GB Ram. I installed the newest version of Plex Server (1.27) and also Plex Home Theater via a special virutalisation tool of Qnap - called HybridDesk Station (maybe you know it).

After setting up my Library, which took me more than 2 days, I started watching videos via the web-client of plex. Everything worked fine! Afterwards I took my QNAP-NAS and linked it via HDMI on my TV (Samsung). The sound is good, by the picture is lagging. I uploaded a picture of the film ā€œBilly Elliotā€. As you can see, the image is not correct (red mark).

So I started to read a lot of forum entries and know I know that PHT is not supported anymore, but there is this OpenPHT. So again, I installed Version 1.7.1 of OpenPHT and sadly, the same problem again.

I read again on several forums and saw that I could download a special Plex App for my Samsung TV - i works, but it is really slow due to the fact that my TV is maybe 4 or 5 years old. So i installed the Plex App on my Samsung Sound Station (HTS F6500) which is also very old and the funny thing is that on both - TV and Sound Station - the picture and the sound is very nice.

But now I have three problems:

  • The TV/Sound Station solution is terribly slow
  • The handling is on my QNAP much easier and better and I would appriciate it if I could use my NAS with OPHT or PHT instead of the TV/Sound Station
  • I want to know why it don’t work (i am interested in it).

So how is my setup?

I have the QNAP NAS linked via LAN with my TV, with my Sound Station - So I would prefer direct play if it is possible as well  What kind of movies do I watch? all my movies are .mkv-files and have different sound codecs like AC3 or als DTS.

Last thing i tested was KODI - but, as you could imagine, I prefer Plex and KODI is not supported officially by QNAP anymore. But for test-reasons I tried it and I had no problems to start the KODI app (instead of PHT or OpenPHT) and I head really NO problems with sound or image quality.

So maybe you can help me. I am quite sure that there are more than enough specialists out there which could give me a hint why I have these problems AND maybe we find a solution for it  That would be so great for me!

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,

Stefan

Hi Stefan. Your English is perfect. No excuses necessary.

What version of KODI did you test with?

Hi Benjamin, i tested MyKodi 16.1

Ok one quick update: I installed 1.6.2. of OpenPHT → No everything works PERFECT  I don’t know why, but i works

This is probably related to the FFMPEG version used in v1.7.1. OpenPHT v1.7.2 will have a newer FFMPEG version that may correct the issue.

What are your audio out settings on the QNAP and OpenPHT? Does it pass through DD5.1?
