Unable to launch PLEX MEDIA SERVER after QTS upgrade 4.3.3

PLEX MEDIA SERVER used to run ok with QTS 4.1. (QNAP TS-251+)

After 4.3.3 upgrade I tryed different ways to install 64 bit PMS version :

  • suppress 32 bit version and inatalling 64 bit version (V 1.5.5)
  • install 64 bit version on the 32 bit one
Each time installation ok but I got the message : Plex media Server hasn’t been enabled to start and I never succeded to run it.

I have to say that I’ve done all these actions remote because I can’t currently physicaly reach my NAS .

Thank’s if someone can help.

Serge

@dane22 can you assist here?

Define “Suppress 32bit version”

Same problem here after qnap update. will try somethings when i get home se what happens

If you access remotely maybe you need to create a tunnel as explainned here

Another user with a similar problem reported that he had success with:

  1. Upgrade QTS to 4.3.3
  2. Upgrade Plex Media Server using the QNAP catalog (this should install PMS 1.5.3 64-bit)
  3. Download PMS 1.5.5 64-bit from here and make a manual install in QNAP (this upgrades PMS 1.5.3 to 1.5.5)

Dear All,
Same problem as Debry. When I used QTS4.2, Plex works well w/o any problem. I did enjoy it. However, after upgrade to QTS4.3, the world is changed. I couldn’t see my QNAP TS-453A signed in anymore.

Is there any solution or advise here? I do appreciate with any help if possible.

Thank you.

Please read a little bit in the pinned FAQ named “QNAP FAQ…READ ME FIRST!!!

Specially Q20

Dear Dane22,
Thanks for your prompt hint. I’m sorry I didn’t read that before upgrading to QTS 4.3.x. The pity thing to me is when I found it fails, I did uninstall the previous PMS from QNAP and install PMS 1.5.3 (from QNAP app center). As Q20 mentioned, the megadata were lost already. I also tried PMS 1.5.5 (from Plex website) but still fails now.

Is there any way to recover my fault (to uninstall my previous working revision in QTS 4.2.x) to make PMS work again?
My QNAP is TS-453A (with Intel 64bit CPU).

Thank you,

What worked for me was:

  1. Restart NAS to close as many open files as possible.
  2. Install 4.3.3 firmware.
  3. Restart NAS running 4.3.3.
  4. Download 64 bit Plex and 64 bit iDrive.
  5. Manually install both apps.
  6. Restart NAS
  7. Both Plex and iDrive working great. Even Plex is peppier (could be my imagination) since it is running 64 bit.

I had a similar problem as the original stated. I’d done everything mentioned and it still refused the connection whenever I tried to open the app.

What eventually fixed it for me was removing the “s” in the https:// ! Worked immediately without problems.

Hope this helps and saves some people a lot of wasted time.

Dear Phillid2,
I didn’t use iDrive and tried to re-install PMS 1.5.5 again. However, it’s not lucky for me. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.

Dear Ace9870,
I also tried your suggestion. Not as luck as you. Thank you.

Are you installing the 64 bit version? I installed the following: https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.6.0.3698-7fe404e94/PlexMediaServer_1.6.0.3698-7fe404e94_x86_64.qpkg

Which is the newest 64 bit version.

1.6.0 is plex pass only. Non-PP users should install 1.5.5

Dear Phillid2 and Moody,
I tried both 1.5.3 and 1.5.5. No luck for me yet. I’m still looking forward to surprises…

@c01029 Other users have reported that the following helped them:

  1. Stop PMS (in APp center)
  2. Reboot the NAS
  3. Install PMS 64-bit from the qpkg

You definitely have to make sure you are downloading the 64 bit version of 1.5.3 or 1.5.5.

Thanks all for your contributions but at the end of the day I’m still stucked.after using all these advices.
I agree i didn’t use the good initial way for this upgrade ( “https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/175405
Specially Q20). But after uninstalling 1.5.3 it should be possible to install the 1.5.5 version as if it was the 1st time.
unfortunately it does n’t work for me.
I suppose the issue is that I’ve done all that remotly.
Is there somebody from the PLEX team who can tell if there is a specific procedure when acting remote ?
Thanks

You need to create a tunnel as explainned here to install PMS remotely for the first time. After initial setup tunnels are no longer needed (MyPlex login establishes security).
