I’m having a bit of trouble, and I’m not sure I fully understand how collections work when it comes to music only collections.
I use Plex for Movies, TV shows, and my music. I have no problems understanding and implementing collections that include Movies and/or TV shows along with music albums/files. My problem comes when I try to have a collection that contains music only.
Here’s the background: I have a smallish, but growing, classical music collection, and I order my classical music by Composer->Work->Movement (correlating to Artist->Album->Track for non-classical music). This works very well for me. Now, there are a number of musical pieces for which the complete piece is made up of multiple works (i.e. Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” or Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite”). For these playlists work very well.
What I’d like to be able to do is create a collections that shows all works of a suite (like Peer Gynt), or performed by particular musician. So, for example, I’d like to be able to tag as a collection, every piece that features Yo-Yo Ma, or is conducted by Solti. I’ve tagged specific albums with at collections tag, but I can’t figure out how to get it to display.
Except that there are no longer basic/premium libraries. The library I’m working with was created new just a couple weeks ago, with PMS version 1.19.4.2865, and I’m a plex pass user. So i expect this to work for me.
Yep, your right - I have a server with the legacy set up… I did go back to my server with the “basic” music - I went to an albums edit pencil, opened the tags and went to the collection. I did not turn on the padlock but typed in a collections name and directly below it it said, “Add xxx” where xxx is the collection name you just typed. I answered yes and saved changes at the bottom of the edit window. I went to a different album’s edit pencil and the tags screen, when I selected the collections it offered my xxx collection title which I selected and saved. When looking for the collections as you did I did (finally) see the XXX lable and when selected showed my two albums, So it does appear to work but entering the lable was a pain and not saving messed me up a couple of times. (Edit- it did take a minute or two for the collection name to appear so there must be some replication delay)
Well, you’ve described the process I’ve completed multiple times. I just can’t get the collection to show up when I try to filter by collections. Very frustrating.
Well, enough playing around and I finally figure it out. If you notice in my original screenshot, I am displaying All->Artists->By Artist. Since the collection is a collection of albums, it doesn’t show up when displaying by artist.
Below is a screenshot showing that I can see the collection if I am displaying by album and then select the collection to view.
So that solves it for me. If I want to see album collections, I’ve got to show albums. If I’m displaying by artist, then it will only show collections of artists. I wish music had a collections page, like in movie libraries, so that all collections (artists and albums) could be displayed. I guess I’ll have to request that feature.
