Questions about building a new Windows RIG

After 9 long years and finally upgrading to Gigabit internet, getting more 4K content on my servers and increasing the number of 4K TVs at home, I have decided to take the plunge and build a solid PC to replace my old Plex Media server.

I’m building the rig based on AMD’s 3960X 3rd Gen Threadripper, 64 GB of DDR4 3600, 2 TB Samsung NVMe SSD, and nVidia GeForce RTX 2060.

I’ve noticed that a lot of folks on here have suggested to go with the P2000 Video cards to help with transcoding, however, my knowledge of Plex, Transcoding, and hardware to go with it, is just enough to hurt me, which is why I’m here to ask if my intended build will be ok to stream at least 3 streams in parallel - my internal network is also going to be rewired with CAT8 in the next couple of months, so hopefully that will help with the upto 4K stream.

Any light shed on the above would be much appreciated, before I splurge on the purchase.

Thank you.

Keep in mind this limitation with NVidia cards. From our support article.

“Windows and Linux devices using NVIDIA GeForce graphic cards are limited to hardware-accelerated encoding of 2 videos at a time. This is a driver limitation from NVIDIA.”

There is a hack to get around this limitation, but it’s not something Plex supports.

Thank you for that, after posting on here, I continued researching the build components online. I eventually replaced the video card with the nvidia quadro p4000 and doubled the ram to 128 gb. Hopefully this addresses my future proofing needs for another 10 years.
