Questions on plexignore

I have a movie library that has the following folders;

F:\moves
G:\moves
H:\moves

I only add movies to H:\movies…

could I put in F:\movies and G:\movies .plexignore and have it not scan those folders at all?
Or does it scan it anyway but doesn’t do anything with it…
Library scan take 14+ hours… I’m trying to cut that down since most of the folders haven’t changed…

plexignore will result in specified folders/files being ignored by Plex – that means, movies already in your library will no longer be seen and Plex will either delete them (or at least show them as deleted if you have configured your server not to automatically empty its trash).

plexignore is not limited to not looking for new stuff.

Do you have those movie folders structured (e.g. F:\movies\movie name (year)\movie name (year).ext) or are all videos stored right in the top-level folders (e.g. F:\movies\movie name (year).ext)?

That’s the folder structure, not an issue there…

  1. If i start a movie scan and watch it does about one movie a second for the first 10-15 minutes and you can see it slow down gradually. to the point it will stay showing that one movie for minutes before moving on… The whole time there is little CPU being used and no network traffic with no users on playing anything… This could be a scan where nothing has been changed…

  2. on the .plexignore…
I tried it and the results were…
It did the last drive first good, since that where the new movies are.
But followed the scan time as in #1 above.
But when it got to the other disks it seemed confused, in that the display that you click on for the dash board and alert indicated it had finished because it stopped displaying movies and just went back to listening…
Then if you click the dots on the library again it would show cancel scan, indicating that it was still scanning. Since the whole process doesn’t seem to use much CPU anyway i can’t tell and if I watch the console there is nothing being reported in the logs.
Still takes about 14 hours to complete… (for the cancel scan to go away)

And it doesn’t change the status of the movies it scanned…
And I do not have it automatically empty the trash…

There’s so many posts about this if you do a simple forum search
