Quick question about "generating video preview thumbnails."

Hey,

I have my settings set to generate video preview thumbnails for new media I add during scheduled tasks. Today I added a MP4 file to my library BEFORE scheduled tasks started and I left Plex up on my computer so I could keep an eye on the “status” tab, just to verify it generated the preview thumbs for the file once scheduled tasks was completed. It completed but shows nothing was generated for the file, but when I play it back with my ATV, the video preview thumbs are there when scrolling back and forth on the scrubber.

Do only certain MP4 files need to generate preview thumbs in order to get the feature to work? Just curious why it didn’t generate any but yet the thumbs word for the video during playback.

Thanks

How did you verify this?
Don’t rely on the ‘toasts’ which may appear in the plex web app.

Go into the Plex media info of the video,
and look out for Indexes sd. If this is present, then preview thumbnails have been created.

I went to the log files on my hard drive under AppData/Local/Plex Media Server/Logs…that’s how I’ve always done it to confirm something if I wanted to check and didn’t have Plex up and running on my screen at the time.

I followed your instructions O…yes it does show “Indexes sd”, that’s strange that the status showed nothing was created though:) Thanks for clarifying that for me.
