I have a friends library shared with me both are fully sonic scanned. When i select a radio or mix on either library it never plays songs from the other library. I have checked all the settings i can but dont see anything that would be preventing this. I did see it work a while back but it hasnt done it lately.
Artist radio e.g. will bring in tracks from shared libraries, it can take a number of tracks until that happens. If you skip forward and still don’t see any, feel free to post your server logs as they would have some indication of what’s going on. Also make sure you have this checked in your radio settings.

Thanks, yes external media is checked. I tried going back an forth in plexamp playing radios and skipping songs. When i switch sources and look at now playing i can see the other source name in parentheses. but its all songs from one source or all from the other source never anything mixed in.
Here are logs from plexamp just in case.

I’m not seeing any evidence it’s considering remote libraries, you should see logs like this right after playing the station.
Jul 24, 2024 10:39:58.163 [0x3088bb000] DEBUG - [Req#e57] Radio: Adding remote node for 'Kathleen Edwards' from David.
I’m not seeing any indication your server knows about other libraries, these logs look like this:
Jul 24, 2024 10:39:30.662 [0x3085ff000] DEBUG - External Metadata: Nothing changed, computed diff in 19378 ms.
Jul 24, 2024 10:39:30.900 [0x3085ff000] DEBUG - External Metadata: Found 445 items of type show in our libraries, and a total of 1531 items to look for in 237 ms.
I do see:
/Users/elan/Downloads/Plex Media Server Logs_2024-07-22_21-06-23/Plex Media Server.1.log:Jul 22, 2024 13:50:53.375 [2404] DEBUG - Media Server: Tested all servers in 5.0 seconds.
In theory it should go sync external metadata after that. There would see to be two possibilities:
- You have no servers shared with you
- Your account isn’t enabled for the feature.
I am able to change sources plexamp and play music from the other server. I tried toggleing the external media setting and closing the app or opening a new radio then toggle it back on and then off but no luck. I think I will try to add another server and see if that works.
You may want to verify that the remote library has been set to use “Plex Music” as scanner and agent. Pretty much all of the newer Plexamp features for generating play queues rely on it.
I had the same problem, and the fix was to just remove and then re-add access to the shared library. After doing that, it started working again.
I figured it might be a server issue rather than a Plexamp one since the web app wasn’t showing “artists you may like.” Are you having the same issue with that?
The only issue I found now, is that it plays ok the shared songs on my phone but if I try to play them in headless pi plexamp it skips all songs in remote library and only play the ones in mine.
I just tried i had my friend remove my access to the server and then grant me access again and it still is the same. One time a few weeks ago it actually queued a song from the other library after playing many songs on my server. I’m not sure what you mean about the artists you may like. I dont see it either.
Yea indont have that I have similar artists and sonically similar artists.
So i was able to get access to another persons library. At first radio didnt show anything but now i see this new users songs in artist radio. Also i am seeing artists you may like from their server on the plex web home page.
I guess it must be an issue with the other users server set up that its not using it for radios? they are sonic scanned wondering if there is anything else i can check.
Not all types of radio will bring in tracks from other servers. As Elan mentioned above, Artist Radio will certainly do (but usually only after playing a bunch of local tracks first).
If you see “Artists you might like” populated with items from the shared library, then the feature works.
