Library and Artist Radio Do Not Work

I have a Plex Pass subscription and I have a premium music library created. On Android and Roku, I have options for library and artist radio, but I just get an error when I try to play them. Roku tells me there are no selected items and Android tells me media in unplayable.

I’ve made sure that my music tracks are analyzed. I have information for loudness, similar artists and under XML view it guid is not set to local.

Anyone have any ideas?

Your log files are needed to see why it is not working

  1. Verify DEBUG logging is enabled only
  2. Reproduce the problem
  3. Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs
  4. Attach the ZIP it gives you

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-21_18-56-56.zip (4.2 MB)

Done and done. Sorry for not including this above.

Thanks for the logs.

I can see the playback initiated (from a remote (VPS/hosted ?) server.

I see the playback video selection.
I see the transcoder start to stream data to Chrome.

Then everything stops. There is no termination message nor is there an error message.
It’s as if there is something blocking the incoming video.

Could this be happening?

Hmm, I’m a little confused. What should be trying to play is a FLAC file (maybe?).

I can assure you my Plex server is not hosted remotely. Also, Plex is connecting directly.

Should I try to play library stations again and then upload another set of logs?

EDIT: I went ahead and added new logs.

I tried to play library radio twice and then a artist radio for 2 different artists. I can see in the logs that it’s generating a playlist of 0 tracks. Just not sure why.

I see absolutely no errors. I am at a loss right now. It’s working but it’s not.

Transcoder starts and does not error
casting starts, some data transferred, then silently stops.

No firewall (on server) between serevr & ChromeCast ?

Are you using a VPN from the external location inbound?

Firewall only active for external connections and not using a VPN.

If you see this part of the log, you can see me try and start artist radio for 2Pac. It actually finds related artists in my library, but doesn’t find any candidate tracks. Not sure what’s going on. Should I just try deleting my music library and starting over?

I wouldn’t delete the music library just yet. Quick question… Does this issue only occur when playing Library Radio? If you play the artist song, does that play without problems? Also, I see in the logs it seems you are casting to chromecast. Does it play if you do not cast?

I get the same error on my device when trying to play library radio, however, I didn’t see what the logs say.

When reproducing the issues for the logs, I was not trying the cast, so that may have been from an earlier attempt?

I have no issues when playing albums or single tracks, just when trying radio stations.

Please just recreate and post up a fresh set of logs. I was out today (personal business)

If you look in “Plex Media Server Log” and go to line 10990, you’ll see where I started to try and play artist radio for a few different artists. I then tried to play library radio which also did not work.

Did you ever get a chance to look at this?

So, after a Plex Media Server reinstall (I got new hardware), I am once again trying to get Artist Radio working. I get the same errors as before. Is there something I am leaving out when I am setting up my Music Library? I’m using a Premium Music Library, but am deselecting some of the options.

Can you show us the errors? (DEBUG log files, something ?)

Also, Linux distro and version, along with other device information for everything involved helps.

Well, I found out why it wasn’t working.

I did not have “Download Popular Track Information” enabled in my music library. It seems that it is necessary for the server to compute candidate tracks for the playlist.

I checked all of the online documentation for Premium Music Library and the features. This isn’t mentioned as a requirement, and that led to quite a bit of hair pulling.

@ChuckPa, I appreciate you trying to follow up with me and get this resolved.

Thank you for posting this! I’ve spent a couple days now searching these forums, rebuilding the plex library, rebuilding the sql db, uninstall-reinstall etc etc and the whole time it was one check box that should be defaulted on. Brutal.

Cheers!
