Radio Stories

What is the best library format to use for collections of radio stories like ‘The Shadow’ , ‘Lights Out’ ,etc.
Should I use : TV Shows, or Music library format ?

Unfortunately Plex currently has no support for resume/FF/RW in audio files so it is not exactly suited for audio dramas or audio books.

There are several tools that can be used to convert mp3s ect to video formats that will work in Plex.

If you have a compatible client (Roku works for this and there may be others) you can simply rename mp3 (maybe some other formats as well) files to m4v (or mp4 I use m4v because it is used for nothing else in my setup) and you can then play them and you will have full functionality. The files MUST be direct played and some audio files do not work this way.

I use a movie library for my audio files so created but others use TV. If you want metadata and posters you will mostly need to edit it manually and add the info from the internet.

I hope this helps at least a bit.

Note: The current Plex Pass client for Roku correctly detects a video file with no video track and forces direct play but I do not know if the regular channel does so. The classic channel and RARflix do not correctly handle this so you must force direct play for those clients to correctly play those types of files.

Thanks, looks like I have a lot of work to do, since I have several thousand radio mp3 files.

Or you could just join the lobby for Plex to implement audiobook support. (That would give radio drama support as well) It has been requested for years and actually promised “coming soon” sometime last year.

In the Plexiverse “soon” has many and varied definitions of which none seem to jive with the Webster definition.

adding my support to implement audio book and radio show support.
