Ram question

I would like to know how much ram is needed to run Plex. Currently have a 12 ram unit. But need too buy another. So please tell me how much ram you have.

Thank in advance

12 GB of RAM should be plenty for Windows PMS assuming you aren’t trying to run a lot of other apps as the same time. Any 32-bit app can nominally address 2GB though some Windows 32-bit apps can possibly 4GB though I don’t know if Windows PMS uses that “large address space” option.

For consideration: I create a RAM disk for transcoding to aid with performance and spare my SSD. While the performance difference is negligible, stacking those tweaks make a difference.

Plex is fairly RAM light. I run my Plex Media Server on a NAS that has 8GB of RAM in it and have never had Plex exceed about 1GB of RAM usage even with 5-6 concurrent streams going.

If we are talking about a new Windows computer, go with at least 8 GB RAM by default.

If you are planning to primarily use 4K “Remux” rips or want to use software RAID or “disc pooling”, you want to go with 16 GB.

I have 24 GB of ram for my server but Plex itself uses maybe 2-3 GB and that’s it. It uses more the more users are watching at once.

I run my security camera Blue Iris software on the same server and that thing takes up 10 GB easily.

Thanks all for the help
