Random video - but also;-
Random unwatched video (taking into account the next one up in the series. if that makes sense)
The current state of random (suffle) doesn't take in account the first or last episode of a series nor it would play movies from a collection in the order of release or chronological. That would require much fiddling. Play random but only the first unseen of a series seems a bit hard to code. Even more with specials (in S00 folder) for series...
I'm plainly satisfied with the current state of the shuffle. It is fast and reliable and can indeed only play any random unseen file if you jsut set the filter before.
2021 clean-up: can be handled with the current implementation.

option 2: Use random library sort (introduced w/ 1.23.3)
option 3: Random item hub
Create a smart collection limited to x unwatched items sorted by random (requires PMS 1.23.3) – this can be assigned as a hub to the library recommended tab or home screen.
