Ok, how about a random video option?



I have my media like so:





Movies<br />
     Movie1.avi<br />
     Movie2.avi<br />
TV Shows<br />
    Show1<br />
        Season 1<br />
        Season 2<br />
    Show 2<br />
        Season 1


If I choose the option from various places, it acts differently:

[*]If I'm at the top of the tree and I hit it, it'll pick any video in my library.
[*]If I'm in Movies, it'll only pick a movie.
[*]If I'm in the Show1 folder when I do it, it picks any episode from show 1.
[*]If I'm in Show1:Season 2, it'll pick any episode from that season.
[/list]

For some shows, it makes more sense than others, but that's my biggest issue since cutting cable: Sometimes I don't want to decide what to watch, I just want to put something on.

I would love to have this feature, as there are times when I just want to turn on plex and just watch something without having to decide.

Can we PLEASE PLEASE add this feature?



I want to be able to select “Kids TV” and have it randomly choose a kids tv episode until i shut it off. So it plays back to back randomized episodes.

Yet another topic about randomization of movies and series that I would resurrect so their voice may be added to the others.

The sense of just wanting to sit down and watch something good without thinking about it also goes along with Pseudo-TV functionality

This is something that would make my Plex experience complete!! 

I agree that it could probably be tied in with playlists by just creating them in the background.

On top of what you mentioned,  I'd also like to see is:

  • Select x number of random films / TV to choose from - Trying to select a movie to watch from hundreds of options takes forever, getting a small selection of say 10 to chose from would make it more fun, especially with friends!
  • Play random episodes from a selection of TV shows - E.g. You select Family Guy, American Dad, South Park etc. and it just plays random episodes from those series.

I think this feature would be really valuable and searching on the forums, lots of people have requested it. As said before, I think it is probably something that would require playlist support, but hopefully that will come soon :D

I agree. Have been wanting a shuffle feature for a while! +1!

Definitely add my +1 to this. It's probably the single largest factor for me still having a cable subscription for the time being.

yea I dont know why you can click and hold on any category (all media, seasons, year, genre etc)  and select shuffle (for continuous random play) or random (for single play).

+1. Just need to pick shows to add to a mix and play randomly forever. So many times this is requested. Need it for Kids.

I would love to have a random movie feature. Maybe something where it would pull three random movie titles at a time and if you didn't like what you saw, a next button to pull three more? Also have a filter to only pull random Unwatched movies or something.

I have a couple thousand movies in my library and short of a recommendation feature like Netflix, I think this would be the next best thing.

I guess what I was looking for was not so much random play (like shuffle on a cd player), but rather random select or a short random list. I am envisioning something where it would display me three random selections from my entire movie library (filters could be applied). If I liked one I would select and play it, if not I could pull three more selections.

Yeah, I've been wanting this since I've been using Plex. While I like the idea of playlists, I think it's too complicated for something like this. In your Comedy Movie section, hit random, blam, random comedy. If you're in Scrubs - bam, random episode of scrubs or Season 6 of Frasier - bam, random episode of Frasier Season 6. Would be excellent.
