With all these shortages, I have two raspberry pi 2’s doing nothing.
I was wondering if plexamp works on a old PI 2?
I just want it to connect PI 2 to a AMP via 3.5 plug and play music from a plex server.
any ideas!!!
regards,
jp
pi2 should work … headless supports 32 bit arm v7 … I haven’t used the pi 2 specifically, but I’ve used similar low-spec device (nanopi neo) with good results (best with wired/ethernet connection)
install script below is a good starting point (notes indicate that arm v8 64 bit is assumed, but I don’t think it’s required … worth a try)
Oh that is good news if it works.
Just assumed because it says 64 everywhere it needed 3 or 4.
Thanks
Jp

Like tgp-2 said wired would be better if you can swing it. If you decide to go the USB DAC route in the future. The Pi2 and Pi3 share the usb bus with the ethernet port so depending on how hi res your file is you may experience clicks and pops and weirdness. You might not.
My Pi3B+ had all kinds of stutters and clicks and pops with a USB connection to a DAC. This could have been the DAC it could have been the Pi. I still don’t know for sure. It worked just fine through HDMI with a HDMI audio extractor and the 3.5mm worked by default.
Good luck!
Good point regarding the shared usb/ethernet … Plexamp has a setting for max network speed (under advanced —> caching) which can sometimes help by leaving more bandwidth for usb etc
Don’t even try HiRes with a RasPi 2. It’ll only end in despair.
