Anyone reckon this would work as a DVB Tuner for PMS? Or would It only work if running PMS on the raspberry pi at the same time so it could use the tuner directly.
Personally I would find this quite useful as I could then mount the Raspberry Pi in the roof space with the aerial. ThIs would mean not having to have aerial cables run all the way down to my PMS server.
fitting case to house both the Pi and the tuner hat
Then multiply it by 2 or 4, in case you want to watch one channel and record another at the same time or have several users who want to watch simultaneously.
Add an antenna splitter and more antenna cabling (which also costs money) to distribute the signal to 2 or more of these units.
With more than one RasPi, you suddenly also need an ethernet switch and patch cables.
Now sum that all up and compare it to the cost for one of the above linked tuner boxes…
I already have loads of spare RasPi lying around with SD cards and power plugs, I can 3D print cases at a cost of around £0.40 per case.
I also cabled my own house so my only cost is the tuner hat and time. Sometimes I just need something to tinker and keep me busy
I’m tempted to try one just to check out the performance. With recent Plex updates trashing my current USB tuners Ive been looking into alternate solutions…
If you want to tinker and you have a spare RasPi lying around, here is a fun project for an ‘invisible’ Plex audio player: Sound on jack on Raspberry 3 ?
I wouldn’t bet on that, it is a niche product for DIY people. Support is mainly given for the more pan-ready solutions like the HDHR. But who knows what’s coming…
