This little guy SCREAMS for Plex to be put on it, maybe in some sort of Plex LIVE trimmed down distro. Given the fact that Plex can transcode, it should be possible to write a client which is pretty easy on the raspberry pi itself, and uses the GPU heavily for performance (same idea as the AppleTV client I guess).
What I want (and hoping) is to do a network boot on the Pi of a Plex client. That way I can have all my TVs connected to the Plex server and can expand instantly and only have to keep 1 updated
Another (even cheaper) alternative to the pi has popped up, the Allwinner. Check out the specs table in this article comparing the Raspberry Pi, Allwinner, and CuBox. Looks to me the best hardware choice is the $15 Allwinner.
Try the Roku for now…same chip as the Raspberry Pi. Makes you think this wouldn’t be far off…one of those moments where I wish I could get Plex software from github
Raspberry PI, Raspian OS (Debian Falvor), Plex Media Center for Linux, Aeon Skin, Plex Mobile clients (IOS, Adndroid or WP7/8 = awsome cheap multi-room multimedia solution for your home.
