Raspberry Pi

Keep it on the radar?
Is anyone who's working on the linux port keeping an eye on Raspberry Pi? An XBMC team member has XBMC running decently on one already.

This little guy SCREAMS for Plex to be put on it, maybe in some sort of Plex LIVE trimmed down distro. Given the fact that Plex can transcode, it should be possible to write a client which is pretty easy on the raspberry pi itself, and uses the GPU heavily for performance (same idea as the AppleTV client I guess).

This would be my ultimate plex client!

It would be super awesome, I was thinking the same thing

The pi is going to be awesome

I’d love to see it on the raspberry pi too… I think it ships with debian support so it shouldn’t be too obscure.

Very, very excited about this myself.

What I want (and hoping) is to do a network boot on the Pi of a Plex client. That way I can have all my TVs connected to the Plex server and can expand instantly and only have to keep 1 updated

does the pi even allow for netboot? or PXE?

I looked into it and I am pretty sure it does. Id post a link for reference but I forget where I saw it at.

I know the CuBox does but that is more expensive

Another (even cheaper) alternative to the pi has popped up, the Allwinner. Check out the specs table in this article comparing the Raspberry Pi, Allwinner, and CuBox. Looks to me the best hardware choice is the $15 Allwinner.

That looks like a great little device as well. More competition always makes the prices come down! :)

From the raspberry pi site

Dang! That ruins some fun. Thanks Jowl

+1 to run plex on any one of these

It would be nice to skip the XBMC and run Plex directly.

+1 here also.

Last commit to the linux client was 4 months ago, so I wouldn’t hold my breath. Nobody’s working on this.

Try the Roku for now…same chip as the Raspberry Pi. Makes you think this wouldn’t be far off…one of those moments where I wish I could get Plex software from github

Anyone subscribed to this post, check the post I made in this thread

Check this out - http://www.raspbian.org/

Raspberry PI, Raspian OS (Debian Falvor), Plex Media Center for Linux, Aeon Skin, Plex Mobile clients (IOS, Adndroid or WP7/8 = awsome cheap multi-room multimedia solution for your home.

Is this setup possible?

It Works

Pi + RaspBMC + Plex

You will need to downgrade your PMS to 0.9.3 for it to working with the XBMC Plex Plugin:

wget http://www.plexapp.com/repo/pool/main/p/plexmediaserver/plexmediaserver_0.9.3.5ubuntu1_amd64.deb

apt-get purge plexmediaserver

rm -rf /var/lib/plexmediaserver

userdel plex

rm /etc/init/plexmediaserver.conf

rm /etc/default/plexmediaserver

dpkg --install plexmediaserver_0.9.3.5ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Well, I got my raspberri pi. Now just for hopes someone will address Plex for linux finally. Plex would gain a lot more traction
