raspberrypi 2

Just like to add my heart felt support and gratitude for everyone who contributes to the Rasplex project. I'm a big fan of everything you guys do. Thank you.

I have just compiled a RPi2 image of OpenELEC 5.0.1 with PlexHT 1.3.6 if anyone is interested in testing PlexHT on RPi2.

Grab image and source code from https://github.com/Kwiboo/OpenELEC.tv/releases

Note: OpenELEC-settings is not included in image.

How do I get my wifi working with this? Can't see anywhere to add it in the config.txt and when I pop the SD into my PI2 it gives the PIN prompt but obviously can't connect as it doesn't have my wifi setup. Is this only usable via a wired connection?

I think there is no way to configure that PHT build as needed, as it lacks access to the proper OpenELEC configuration menu.

You might want to try the BerryBoot method instead, as described in another recent thread.
The rest of this post describes how to configure WiFi with that setup.

I have no problem using it with a wireless connection, but if you use "Plex Home" accounts in your PMS server with enforced PIN login, that could be a problem. So I hope this is not the case.

You will encounter the same login screen in the first time configuration wizard, in which case I suggest that you use your remote/keyboard to select and use the "Next" button on that screen, so as to bypass the login (can be done later, after configuring WiFi).

If/when you reach the main menu of PHT, you should only see the command "Search" repeated from top to bottom of the left side of the screen, since that is the only command the menu contains when not connected to a PMS server. But there is also a side menu that you can open with DPad_Left on remote/keyboard, and here you will find commands for configuration and system control. The command you need to use is "System Settings", which will open a popup window menu intended for configuration of the OpenELEC system.

In the left-hand part of that window there are several commands which open sub-menus for the right-hand part of the window, and the first submenu you need is the one for "Network", and in the right-hand submenu you should then check that the "Wireless Networks" section has an orange led-like blob to the right of the "Active" entry. If not then you need to activate it by selecting that entry and pressing OK/Enter on remote/keyboard. (If this fails, your network adapter is probably not supported by BerryBoot kernel/drivers.)

With the activation of wireless networks done, you then proceed to the next command in the left-hand part of the window, which is "Connections". Here you may encounter some delay before the right-hand part of the window is populated with the list of available WiFi networks. The time needed for this scanning can vary a lot, so don't give up if nothing happens immediately. Once you see a list of networks including your own, you should select your own network and press OK/Enter again, which then opens a popup box where you can choose "Connect". That in turn opens another popup dialog where you can enter your WiFi password. And when you exit from this dialog with OK/Return your network connection should occur. That too can take a few seconds, but it's usually a quick operation. And from that point on you should see the normal "Plex Home Theater" interface, just as with a wired connection. And you can then back out from the "System Settings" menu with Back/Escape on the remote/keyboard.

However, if your PMS server requires authentication even on LAN (one of the PMS options), then you will still only see the "Search" command in the main menu, since you've not logged in yet. That can be done by again opening the side menu and this time use the submenu command Preferences > System > Plex > "Sign in", which presents you with the same kind of login screen as seen in the first time wizard earlier.

Btw: Though the default choice in the login screen is to use the PIN method, I always skip that, switching to "Manual" instead and simply enter my username/password as text using my mini keyboard. But if you use a TV remote I guess PIN digits would work better. Either way the end result is the same.

I hope this guide solves your problem.

"It seems a community member has already gotten plex working on the raspberry Pi! We've invited him to join the project, but either way this will make it much easier for us to get a build out.

We won't release anything until we have a fully tested, fully working port that's worthy of our users, but I'm optimistic we will have something ready for beta by the end of the weekend."

Bit late with that here, see earlier post today https://forums.plex.tv/topic/144235-raspberrypi-2/?p=846391

Yeah I tried that, but the system menu wasn't functioning for me. It just did nothing. Tried a reflash and the same thing. So I read your write up on Berryboot and tried that. Succes!! I should have tried it first I guess.  Thanks for the advice. Berryboot method worked flawlessly. Rasplex is impressive, can't wait to see the official version. The only problem is it's made me want to put a Pi and plex in everyroom in the house ;)

Thanks again :)

Just a heads-up, I've gotten the first build of RasPlex for the RPi2 finished today.

The UI is insanely responsive, the boot time is very fast. Playback seems to work without any issues on whatever I've tried so far.

I've also updated to the latest kernel (3.18.6) and included all drivers that the latest OpenELEC has. We're still on the old OpenELEC for now for stability reasons, but this seems to be getting us the best of both worlds.

After the beta team has had a chance to put it through its strokes, I'd love to release this as soon as possible so everyone can enjoy the speed and stability of RasPlex on the RPi2.

That’s fantastic news! Can’t wait.

How do i get on this beta team?  :)

Excited to hear about this !! One question though. On Openelec 5.01 i am able to get 5.1 Sound out of the PI2 when playing back files with aac, on Rasplex 5.0 via berryboot there is only stereo sound. Is this still the case? The settings menu has more options in Openelec. I guess there will be no change until the move to the new codebase is completed? Thanks for all the effort!!

It's likely this issue will be solved now that we are using their latest kernel and device trees.

Thanks for all the effort and time you guys put into this! Really appreciate that! :)

Will there be pass-through of HD-sound with rasplex on the RPi2?

Happy to hear good news......waiting for my own RPi2 ( maybe today )  and one silly question .... will it be possible to direct play 1080p mkv  files + srt subs (like PHT on MacOSX)  or only transcoding like on iOS ??

I got one ordered.

is it still good practice to run off USB stick over SD card??

its gonna be powered off USB off the telly, HDMI to the telly and controlled by CEC with wired Ethernet.

Interested to hear confirmation but I thought it was only in the very early days that there was a benefit in running via USB, since then they have moved a lot of the i/o to RAM.

I would also love this. Sadly, I don't think the change to the Pi2 will make any difference this respect. As far as I can tell it's a licensing issue. It's a shame because with this the Pi2 would be perfect. As it stands, I'm tempted to buy a NUC just so I can get the HD audio support.
