raspberrypi 2

There are rumors that the Windows 10 IOT sku may run Universal (ie. modern, metro) apps. If that ends up being true, it's not likely a port of PlexHT but instead the Windows 8 version of Plex (which is inferior to PlexHT imho)

I would like to see that happen myself, but I have serious doubts about it.

Microsoft using terms like "Universal apps" does not make them automatically compatible to every platform.

Efficient media player software always needs to contain native CPU code to handle complex rendering needs for the host system, if not in the app code itself, then in standardized runtime API libs ported to each platform the app system should support. And while Microsoft might support the RPi2 with the basic Windows 10 IoT system, I do not think they will supply such a complex app system, tailor-made to the RPi2 hardware. They probably expect the raspberry pi foundation or other interested parties to invest the work needed for that, as has been the case with various RPi OS and application images. And that might take a long time, or not happen at all.

If they do so themselves anyway, that would be terrific, but I won't raise any hopes for it in advance.
This is definitely a case of "I'll believe it when I see it".

For Windows 10 IoT read Windows RT, for that's what it is, with a bit of an update, and look what happened to Windows RT!

MS have no real choice anymore, they are being slaughtered in the marketplace and customers are slowly moving to other platforms that are as good (and debatably better) due to the development community. Good on them for trying to keep the dream alive though guys.

I have two Raspberry Pi 2s ready to go if you need additional beta testing. :) Both are hooked up to external AV receivers that can do DTS-MA/TrueHD so I can test that too, if necessary.

Yesterday i've recieved the Raspberry 2, if there's an open beta i am glad to test this release. :)

I usually hate "+1" posts, but in this case I have a RPi2 burning a hole in the mantlepiece... happy to have a crack at any beta release :)

Hi everyone.  Brand new Plex user, and about to be a new Raspberry Pi2 user.  Never used either product before, but comfortable enough around Linux.  I've been searching for a Plex client for my TV and will probably buy the Amazon FireTV stick to tide me over until this is fully baked.

For a complete n00b here, can anyone put together a shopping list for me for a perfect RasPlex client?  I know I need the RBPi2 board, but what is the preferred case?  Remote? (I want a real remote), Is power supply via USB possible?, Micro SD card size, can we add WiFi?

Cost is (almost) not a factor for this project.  Considering the cost of a full blown HTPC just for Plex, I can splurge a bit.  Thanks.

Edit: I see some Raspberry "kits" are available from certain web stores.  I would be open to that too, provided the components are top shelf.

This is what I use:

Mod my pi case

5V 2A Charger

flirc usb IR reciver + Xbox remote (like this I can control the Xbox, the and the pi)

Aluminium coolers for the pi board.

Why not just use your tv remote control with CEC?

Not all televisions have support for CEC. I realized this recently when my roommate bought a 2013 60" Vizio. My 2009 Samsung has CEC, I couldn't believe that something made four years later did not. Then again, his model is from the "budget" line.

a release from the rasplex team looks like its near :)

robertsig, consider also, instead of the flirc+xbox remote couple, a usb ir receiver+remote bundle that you can find on amazon for less than 10 dollars (i won't put the link because i don't know if it's against the policies, but you can find it searching for "media center remote" on amazon). I have it and it works flawlessly for both rasplex and raspbmc. and it's cheaper too

I can't offer advice on a case or remote (if your TV supports CEC you won't need a seperate one).

Definitely use a proper 5V 2A PSU, as per Raspberry Pi foundation's recommendation.

MicroSD card doesn't have to be large, I use a 4Gig Class 10 at the moment.

I would advise against WiFi if a cabled connection is possible, WiFi it isn't reliable enough in most cases for the RPi1/2 to get a decent media stream.

Any word from developers as to how rasplex on the Pi2 is looking? Is it stable or does it need some work? Just wondering if it's likely to be days or weeks?

Really appreciate the hard work that goes into this, but equally eager to get my Pi2 in use :)

Rasplex Facebook:

"The release will likely be today. We need to update our installer to support a "raspberry pi2" option. Stay tuned and thanks for waiting"

Great news......got mine RBPi2 half an hour  ago.....tried OpenELEC and it works great I mean PERFECT....configuring Rasplex with BerryBoot right now.....will be testing it till "normal" release....doesn't matter alpha/beta/stable stadium... wow....it seems there will be excellent player for NAS owners ( everybody knows that transcoding on NAS sucks) and not expensive also....FINALLY

Excellent news!

One question: does anyone know what bitrate the Pi2 can handle via Direct Play?

I am running kwiboo’s build at the moment… And I haven’t had a lag ever since… Some movies had a way to high bitrate for the rpi 1… Now with the rpi 2, these days are over!

I use wifi with a Edimax n dongle. It's very reliable...even with large files. Mi pi is about 6 meters from the router with a wall in between.
