Looking forward to the kickstarter project!
I have a question. If I was to buy a rasberry pi now would that work in the case you are designing down the road or will your case be modled for a reconfigured rasberry pi that you guy's are working on? I'm really thinking of grabbing one now to play with. I love this project and would totally buy from you if you do come out with soemthing!
Great project, especially the power button option, and the re-routing of the cables. Credit card ready, I can t wait :)
This case looks great, I love the VESA aspect, but if I mount the Pi on the back of my monitor across the room, won't it be difficult for it to get a clear signal on the IR receiver? I thought IR remotes worked best if they had good LOS (since it's just using light, after all).
Not the biggest concern for me, since I'll probably use an android client for remote control, but it seems like these two features are contradictory.
I had the same question earlier…
just wondering about the IR receiver. will it only be built in, or will there be an IR port available? The reason i ask is, If I use the vesa mounts to put it on the back of my TV, how will i get a signal to it?
Answer from Dale Hamel:
The IR receiver will be satellite (similar to Wii IR bar).
Put me down for 1! (once available of course :) )
Can / will you ship to Europe?
Answer should be - yes of course :-))
Yes we will
Quick question, I see on FB that if you donate 20 US, you will be egiable for a case once they come out of production, what will the shipping cost be roughly to the UK?
Im keen to get me some of this raspberry PIE!!! :P
any time date as may is coming fast for the stl files to be released?
If you are still looking at remotes, I'd like to give a prop to the Mele F10.
It is a 2.4GHz 'wifi' remote - comes with a USB button receiver.
http://en.mele.cn/products/show/21.htm It has HTPC-type buttons and a full keyboard on the back. I've used one for my Android/Google Plex TV and it is the best of the 'airmouse'-type remotes I've found.
Very nice build quality and great range. It may be that Mele have another remote that works even better for this implementation - give them a look
I had the same question earlier... Answer from Dale Hamel:
Honestly, my Roku is balanced behind my wall-mounted tv, pointing up, and it has no issue receiving signals from remotes. I have another one set up the same way, but higher on the wall, and again, no signal issues.

can I ask if you have the game remote (the one with the A and B buttons) for your roku?

I do. It works with that one as well, but I normally use a Harmony.

well, I was fixing to tell you the roku remote (game) it's not IR it's bluetooth, that's why it works anyway you point it,
but now you said your harmony works too, that's interesting,
I just noticed its only an IR receiver. It would be super sweet to throw in a blaster -OR- just wire a 3.5mm jack for an external blaster. You guys rock!
Can't wait to buy a case!
Backer right here as well
can't wait to buy one of these! when?! when?!?! : )
Coming Soon
The official RasPlex case is expected to be available for order in May 2013.  The initial batches will be 3D printed, and custom assembled and shipped by Dale.
we ready?
not yet? :(
Don't know if this is any help, but I buy cases from Jean Marsh at ModmyPi - they do custom case production. Cheeeep and great quality.
Their stock cases are about three.5 quid wholesale and less VAT. Their flirc solution is way too expensive, though.
They 3D print all their stuff, I believe.
Give me a PM if you want contact details.
Looks great, the only way to make this any better would be an integrated power adapter. As long at it comes in at a reasonable price I'll be placing an order!
