Rasplex with B+

Hello

I cannot get my new B+ to work with RasPlex. It boots up to Welcome to RasPlex wizard but it will not recognise my LAN and all USB's so i have no keyboard. I have reflashed my SD card and same again. I installed NOOB software from Raspberry site to confirm my USB/Lan are working. I have a feeling an little update will be needed to sort this out.  Hoping it gets fixed soon.

Having the same issue. Received my new B+ today, RasPlex doesn't recognize the USB ports OR the ethernet port. It surely has to do with the minor hardware differences in the B+ vs. the B. I'm sure the team will get it taken care of ASAP. I can't wait to get RasPlex up and running on my shiny new RPi!

Needs a firmware update, there are already numerous posts about this, use your old Pi for now.

If you had searched the forum you would have seen the other comments.

Let's not replicate in different posts.

Well first off, I didn't create this post. I came here looking for assistance, saw this post, and provided feedback. It's the only one on the first two pages of posts that have subjects mentioning the B+ USB/Ethernet issue.

Now I can see that there were comments made in the RC issues/bug thread that's stickied, but it's not reasonable to expect someone to dig through that post - I don't see this as an issue with the RC, but more an issue with the fact that the hardware is unsupported, well after the RC was released.

Apologies for any miscommunication.

I can assure you that the Devs are working on a new release, have patience, the old firmware was used, because it worked and the thousands of the original Model B Rasplex users are not affected.

It would seem that the Raspberry Foundation are the new Apple, they kept the new hardware revision to themselves and a few priveledged companies who must be contributing to the Foundation in some way, as they had cases out on the day of release

If you Google you will find a large number of companies, let alone, open source projects who are a wee bit annoyed. Spare a thought for companies that have invested hundreds of thousands in stock that is now worthless (case manufactures, add on board manufacturers of boards that no longer fit, etc), the Foundation have stated that they will continue to supply the original 512 Model B's, but trying finding a supplier with stock, or potential buyers who want old hardware.

It's bad enough when commercial companies stiff their users, but when a charitable organisation does it, it doesn't seem right.

Incidentally, by searching, I meant using the search tool, not expecting people to read through dozens of posts, try it, it's quite useful.

According to what I've seen, an update is going to be released very soon that will address this issue.  If you're impatient and not great at this stuff (much like me), I've found a way to get RasPlex working on your B+.

You will need an older model of the Raspberry Pi in order to SSH in and copy some files... but who doesn't have an extra 256 MB version laying around?

http://raspberrypihtpc.wordpress.com/how-to/how-to-update-openelec-and-the-raspberry-pi-firmware-without-pulling-the-sd-card/

Also, the link posted to the OpenELEC image file is broken, but the newest files can easily be found elsewhere.

I can verify this works, and RasPlex seems quite at home on the B+!

Update for B+ now available, use the GetRasplex installer and select 0.4.0-RC5.

The only change is to support the B+, there are no other fixes or new features - but these are brewing at the moment.

There is no FF in the b+.  I susp[ect the same it true for other board versions.

1080p videos that work flawlessly with all other plex derivitaves and third party clients do not work acceptably in rasplex on a B+, and I suspect on any Pi.

Rempte keypress debouce code is insufficient.  buffered keypresses are never thrown away, leading to unexpected behavior.

Rasplex appears to be not suitable for use in place of all other options, since all other options are functional even if crude compared to PHT.  At this time rasplex is not a good example of PHT, despite glowing reviews of pi users.

I am less impressed because I have seen the same processor and memory load to be ready for prime time running other code sets.  The pi is fully capable, rasplex is not.

Your opinion is noted. You're entitled to it, though I think most people here disagree with you on the usefulness of RasPlex.
But did your post have any other purpose than to state your discontent ? Some question on how to improve performance maybe...?

(And yes, there are ways to improve performance, such as overclocking, disabling unwanted services, disabling background slideshows or even modifying the default skin to remove some unnecessary delays.)

You are of course free to 'dump' RasPlex, if that's what you want to do, but I think you'll miss out on something good that way.
