Rasplex 0.4.0-rc5 - For Raspberry Pi B+ models now available

Just in case you missed this release on Facebook there is a new release which fixes the issue with the new Raspberry Pi B+ model’s change of chipset for ethernet/USB.

There are no other fixes or new features in this release, standard B model users do not need to upgrade, it is not available in Rasplex’s Upgrade Channel.

The only way to get this new release is by installing to a micro SD card via the GetRasplex installer for OSX or Windows which can be downloaded from the Rasplex site.

Hello,

I recently bought a Raspi B+, copied the install image using the installer tool under OSX to an SD card, but the Raspi won't boot with rc5 image.

Nothing happens, powers on but screen stays in sleep mode, tried to wait, nothing.

If I copy the rc4 image, power on, the screen turns on immediately, it boots fine, no problem.

Using the same hardware for both tests.

Anyone got that issue ? I'm stuck at that point.

Are you using a Class 10 micro SD card, at least 4gb?

Are you using an adequate power supply, not a mobile phone charger, that supplies at least 2A?

Are you sure the installer (GetRasplex) completed.

This version works fine on my B+.

Hello,

As I said, I have NO problems with rc4, it boots and runs fine (no usb or network, but that's normal).

I'm using a Kingston 16Gb micro SHDC class 10 card.

The power supply is an iPod charger, with 1A output.

Will try to change the power supply

Thanks for your advices

Regards

Phil

[EDIT] Tried with a IPad USB charger, no more success. Screen stays black, one red led is on, another red green one flashes three or four times on the Raspi motherboard. Screen is on but black...

Thanks for the info, do you get the OpenElec screen at all?

Hello,

I don't even know if it's booting :(

Sounds like a problem with the SD card, I would try flashing another, or if you don't have one, try reflashing the existing one. This is definately a card problem as I have now flashed three different cards and all work OK. Sorry if this sounds obvious, but make sure you eject the card on your Mac before taking it out, I have corrupted cards by not doing this in the past.

Hello

Yes, I take care of ejecting the card before removing it.

I tried rc5 on another SD card... Even with a Raspi B... Same results... Black screen

I can't boot rc5 on Raspi B or B+, while rc4 boots on both...

Shall I try to write the image using a Windows machine ? I tried with two different Macs

You could try that, I only have Macs. I still don't understand this issue as I have now flashed this image 7 times and had successful boots. Before it's release a colleague also flashed this image using Windows and booted the card on a standard B to make sure it worked on either hardware.

Can you log an issue on Github https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/issues and we'll investigate further.

I haven't been able to get Rasplex working on my B+ either.  I install it to the card, it boots into Rasplex, and I can configure my server.  However, if I try to play any videos it just thinks for 30 seconds, plays about 6 seconds of video at most, then boots back to the video description.  If I try to cast to it the process starts and recognizes on both my android and the pi, but then it times out and the connection drops.  This occurs when wired or wireless, has happened across multiple micro cards, and has happened on multiple install tries.

I got it working on my b+, but I was too provocative in my thread title because I suggested my expectations were too high, so everyone spent the last day avoiding my thread.  My expectations were set here in the rasplex forums.

I' a lab manager who supports a lab for testing products like this in a commercial carrier environment, supporting two teams of software developers, and two teams of QA testers.  Our own set top boxes have the same memory footprint and processor as the B+ pi.  And that hardware supports multiple CA systems, and multiple UI systems.  So I know the hardware is reasonably solid.  Any problems are purely programming.

There is no fast forward, the only result from attempting to use ff with a x32 speed is the sound is turned off.

The initial install was frozen at an input prompt for 5 minutes, then every keystroke from my remote was blasted through the menus, so the installation was randomized by buffered remote keypresses.  The input buffer should be flushed between screens, but isn't, so 5 minutes old inpuit is treated as fresh.

The system plays up to 720p ok, but cannot play 1080p without unacceptable levels of on-screen artifacts.

My experience with all other attempts to use plex in any way are nearly flawless, my only serious issues are with rasplex on the pi.  The earlier 256m pi's cannot use 0.4.0 at all, they can never successfully get to the point of playing a video without a crash.  The B+ is much better, but still not to the level suggested by the glowing reviews.  I honestly feel like I wasted my money on a B+.

I have no doubt that 256m is too little, but 512m doesn't seem to be enough for pht.

If I seem terse, it is because my detailed post was ignored.  I understand why, but it is a sorry excuse.

I didn't see your original thread, just the complaint you must've replaced it with, but you aren't giving enough detail here for anyone to help you troubleshoot your issue. The problems you list here are not normal. There is something about your setup that isn't functioning correctly. Have you checked all of the following:

-You are using a class 10 microSD

-You have flashed the latest revision 0.4.0rc5 for B+ model using the official utility

-You have a solid network connection

-You are using a wired connection or a wireless dongle known to be compatible with the RPi.

-You are using a remote/IR receiver known to be compatible with the RPi.

-You are playing back a video of a reasonable size (given your available bandwidth).

-Your power supply is of sufficient amperage (2000 mA).

-Your computer running Plex Media Server is at least reasonably current hardware (Dual-core, couple of gigs of RAM).

In addition, there are some reports of issues with the Chinese-manufactured Pi as opposed to the U.K.-manufactured one, but I don't know if there's anything to them.
