This is my first time posting here, so if this is in the wrong category, my apologies.
The title is a bit misleading, so please allow me to clarify. I have two Raspberry Pies. They are both 3 B+. I have installed RasPlex on both of them, I used the GetRasPlex app for both. Identical Pies, identical images, one works perfectly, the other won’t boot. The only difference between the two is one has a 32GB MicroSD, the other has an 8GB MicroSD.
I figured it had something to do with the SD cards, so I tried swapping the two cards in the Pies. Same result, the one pie that worked before still works, and the one that didn’t work still doesn’t work. This allows me to know it doesn’t have anything to do with the SD card, it has to do with the machine.
I also know the Pie works fine because I have run LibreElec on it flawlessly. I can also run RetroPie with no problem. It’s just something to do with RasPlex on that specific Pie. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Lastly, I hope I am posting this in the right forums. I started at the rasplex.com forums, and it brought me here.
I don’t suppose there is a pro vs con here. I didn’t know I could use Plex with Librelec. The reason I was hoping to have two RasPlex clients is so that I can have to identical devices, and not have to monkey around with two different operating systems, running the same thing two different ways. I guess what I am saying is, I just wanted it to be uniform. It worked once, but not twice.
I’ve tested both MicroSD cards, both of the cards are good.
Both of the RPi’s are good. It’s just one specific RPi will not work with RasPlex.
I have now also tried getting a 3rd MicroSD card, downloaded the RasPlex image from the GitHub link provided above, and used Win32DiskImager to install it. Still same results. Put it in the bad RPi, no go… put it in the good RPi, works like a charm. Put Librelec back in the bad RPi, works like a charm. I don’t get this.
I thought I had a faulty RPi as well…but I runs Librelec and RetroPie no problems.
When I say it won’t boot, it sits on the rainbow screen with the lightening bolt.
I know that the rainbow screen means that the display driver did not initialize properly, and the lightening bolt means that it is under powered. Usually, I see the rainbow screen for only a quick moment, this one just hangs.
I am using the same power supply, same HDMI cable, same…everything when testing the two RPis.
I have tried a second display, I get the same result.
I have not tried to SSH into the RasPlex yet, my assumption was that if it is hanging on the rainbow screen, I won’t be able to connect to it anyway. And we all know what assuming does…right? It gets you to the end faster!
Just want to jump on this, as I have the latest Raspberry PI and Rasplex will not run on it. I get the Rainbow Splash Screen and a lightening bolt.
It will run on using different images like OpenMediaVault and Kodi, but I did a bit of Google and it seems there is a difference in the Firmware between the old and new Pi’s when it comes to running Rasplex.
