I happen to have multiple instances of songs with the same Title and Album Artist. For instance:
Prince/1999/01 1999 1.mp3
Prince/1999/01 1999 2.mp3
Prince/The Very Best of Prince/02 1999.mp3
Yes, it’s a bit cluttered; I’m trying to clean up my act…
If I change the rating for one of these, and then either refresh the page in the webapp or go to the next song in Plexamp, all songs will have their ratings changed. What’s up?
I searched for this topic already, but the relevant post (“Rating one song changes the rating for other songs in album”) currently has no answer.
Also, I’m fairly clueless when it comes to the inner workings of Plex, but I’m trying to get better at it, so please be merciful.
plex basically assigns an ID for a particular song, then groups/dedupes multiple copies of the song.
unfortunately, it sucks because there is zero user control over what actual file is desired by the user, and leads to cases such as your example, where all tracks of the same song share the same rating.
I for one absolutely HATE this, and there is no way to disable it.
There is also no easy way for plex to import tags for existing ratings from each track.
Thanks for the quick response! Good to know it’s not just me
I was trying to use the one-star rating to identify duplicates for deletion. Could you recommend some other process for this? I’m not opposed to copying the whole music library, trimming it down somehow, and then replacing the original if I have to.
Same problem here. Even more frustating when Plex puts the wrong file in the desired AI playlist. So i have to listen to an .mp3 file instead of the FLAC-version because he thinks they are the same.
Unfortionally in AI playlist you cannot use bitrate as one of the filters.
