I am trying to re-establish my plex library after a RansomWare attack. I had to completelylear my Plex server hard drive so I have no folders or media on it, but when I open Plex I see all my categories as though they were still there. Do I need to delete my account and start over? I have all my data off line ready to move back on line but when I tried to add my movies back in a directory on the Plex hard drive, Plex doesn’t see them, says the drive is empty, and I can’t figure out how to add my movies back into new folders I’ve made so Plex will associate the new with the old, even though they are the same.
I’m fairly new at this, although I had it all working fine before the RansomWare attack, so please don’t hit me with lots of inside terminology like “pinned” because I don’t know what that means. I hope somene can help me get my server back up and running. I’m glad I still have all my assets off line, I just need help to get them back on line. Thanks!
That sounds like the old database is still around on your server, so I really doubt you wiped your hard drive!
I assume with above you mean your medias?
When said, in order to completely reinstall PMS on your workstation, follow this:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/
If above isn’t what you are looking for, but have metadata that you wants to preserve, and that survived your attack, then create new folders for your medias on your hard drive, and copy your medias back onto it.
Then edit your library, and if the defined file path doesn’t match the new structure, add the new path, and do NOT delete the old one.
Then do a Scan Library Files and if everything then is okay, edit the library once more, and remove invalid defined paths
