Hi, this has been requested a bunch of times and it sort of died..Wen't nowhere.
I would like to open up that request again because IMHO it's probably the only thing missing from Plex.
Obviously it would be really nice if we are browsing our library and IF a *-trailer.mp4 file is detected in the same folder as the movie, then a submenu is offered which has the option to
- Play Movie
- Play Trailer
- Cancel
I heard lots of people saying stuff about the XML metadata and how Plex wouldn't know where these trailer files are and whatever..
But I mean, can't you just avoid or bypass XML data? I am not a coder by any means, but wouldn't you be able to pull it of in a different way, rather than parsing XML data?
if *-trailer.mp4 exists;
show user the submenu that offers to watch the trailer.
else
play the goddamn video normally.

ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE, which isn't so elegant but I think some might agree it's a lot better than nothing. If the first request is too hard, and figuring out the XMl metadata is impossible as it was 5 years ago,
It would be cool if we could Add a New Library to our Plex Servers. The TYPE would be Trailers. You would set it to the same folder as your movies. This "type" of library will only scan for *trailer.* files.
So when you want to watch a movie, you go to your "Trailers library" and when you figure out what it is you like, you simply switch over to your movies library and away you go!
Anyway, if I could write code I would probably try to make something like this happen. At least the #2 option as it doesn't sound like it would be too difficult.
I really think you guys are missing out on the absolute best feature (you've already aced all the others..I think this is the only thing left thats really draggin plex down!)
Thanks again
