Reading files in orginal quality

Hi,

I’ve seen a couple of threads now, tried reading through the logs but I can’t find anything.
My CPU is running at 100% for transcoding most of my files, even if they are supposed to be supported. So I tried enable original quality option but it doesnt work.

So I found that thread there : Roku transcoding on files that otherwise shouldn't require it

Talking about roku.xml but I don’t know where to find anything.

I really need help it’s been days and I can’t find anything

Have a nice day!

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-01-09_01-44-30.zip (5.6 MB)

Are you using a Roku device? In your logs I only see you using a Chrome browser. I see a couple of playbacks and they all require transcoding.

Fire Force - This was a remote connection and it’s hitting the remote quality setting of 4 Mbps.
Dr Stone - You have ASS subtitles so they are getting burned in.
Gravity - The video is 10-bit. Web only supports 8-bit

Thank you for your answer.

Great to know these limitations but can’t I do anything about it ?

Like what do I need to mind when downloading series ?
I assumed H265 transcoding was the problem at first but if Subtitles format and bitrate impact experience too it’ll be a bit of an additionnal problem to me

So remote connection quality is capped at 4mbps ? Is it possible to set it to unlimited ?

About ASS subtitles, I assume I can’t do much but re download all the series that have such subtitles

And about video bitrate, I’ve got an android tv, which I assume is also using the web client as it’s getting my CPU at 100% too ? Can I change the bitrate max support or do I also need to re download everything in 8 bit ?

Thank you for the support by the way!

Check the bandwidth settings on the remote device. Plex defaults to 4 Mbps.

Android TV devices use the Plex Android TV client.

Don’t confuse bit rate with bit depth.

You need to know the capabilities and limitations of your clients.

As MovieFan.Plex mentions, web browser do not support 10-bit video. In addition, except for recent versions of Safari, they do not support HEVC video either.

The capabilities of Android TV devices vary greatly. You’ll need to check the specifications of your device to see what it supports.

In general, if you don’t have an HDR TV, don’t play HDR, or even 10-bit non-HDR, media. It will most likely transcode.

Regarding subtitles, SRT are the least likely to transcode. For ASS, see if your Plex app (not server) has a “burn subtitles” setting. If so, change it from Automatic to Image Formats Only. That will help minimize, but not eliminate, video transcoding due to subtitles.
