Some times downloaded subtitles have a small delay. I've already seen a player (didn't remember the name) that try to sync the subtitle with the audio stream in real time in that cases.
I' think with some signal analysis, some filters and a good algorithm this is possible do detect a delay between subs timeline and audio stream.
This feature can simplify the life of people watching some rare video where sync subs are hard to find.

This feature would be awesome. Almost every subtitle i get from the opensubtitle.org channel is out of sync.
Neat idea. This would be a killer feature if it could be done.
I've done some searching and I'm not sure if there is a good solution out there. This open source media player, Kantaris, claims to be able to find "perfectly synced" subtitles. It might be worth a quick look. However, the guys at VideoLAN claim that existing auto-sync technology is not mature enough and doesn't really work...
