Really confused about remote access

Been thru a few FAQs on this subject. I have remote access enabled and have no problem access my account. My son can access via his Android phone when he’s off local network.

What I WANT is to give access to my brothers who are remote from my network. Managed User access doesn’t seem to do it… they would get prompted to enter MY account credentials. That’s NG. Am I correct - Managed Users generally have to be on Network (or know my account information to sign in – I suspect that I set up my son’s phone with my account).

How do I grant them access for the external IP address provided in my settings? I want them to have Windows/Browser access.

I tried creating a Plex account for them (hard to test this locally), but when starting those, plex-web is looking for a local plex server.

From what I’ve seen elsewhere this is doable, I’m obviously missing something. And yes I am a PlexPass subscriber.

You’re right about the managed users… those are intended for users within your own household where you want to remain in control of the underlying main user. Adding your brothers as „Friends“ will do the job… they can have their own accounts (even their own servers… doesn’t really matter to you). You can invite them and grant them access to all your server content or individual libraries (pretty much as you would for a managed user).
