Receiving "CERT: incomplete TLS handshake: wrong version number (SSL routines)" message in console

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#: Irrelevant
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Recently I began to get a lot of “CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from 91.90.120.165:42179: wrong version number (SSL routines)” messages in PMS console. I also began to experience abrupt PMS shutdowns while the Synology NAS (DS218 running on DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3) on which it runs experiences no other issues.

So far:
1- Reboot my router/modem
2- Changed my external port
3- Restarted PMS server

to no avail.

What may be wrong and what can I do to remediate the issue?

Thanks!

Your server updated its certificate today.

It’s very likely they didn’t restart their players to get the new certificate info.

If you want to make 100% certain everything is clean & reset,

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Open FileStation
  3. Navigate to PlexMediaServer / AppData / Plex Media Server / Cache
  4. You will see cert-v2.p12
  5. Delete cert-v2.p12
  6. Restart PMS

Now tell everyone to restart their player apps.

Hi ChuckPa,

Thanks for the prompt response, much appreciated. However, I don’t think that’s my problem. I do not have this many users with this many clients that changes their IP addresses this often; More than 50 connection requests in half a second, each from a different IP seems odd to me.

What else may be the problem? Besides, my PMS keeps crashing shortly after the scheduled jobs run each night at 2:00am local time, and this began to happen right after I purchased Plex Pass. What is needed to diagnose the issue? Should I post a separate topic for that?

Thanks in advance!

Altug
