Same here… horizontal scrolling makes more sense on a widescreen which is what 95% of tv’s out there are these days.
No, it doesn’t. I have a widescreen TV, and even with only a hundred or so movies, side-scrolling is a major pain in the ass. Vertical scrolling is far more efficient and user-friendly.
Losing features is a big deal but not a deal breaker to me, what is getting tougher each day though is how, simply put, bad the New unified UI is.
Horizontal scrolling is not good (good to hear from elan on that topic), but I am more referring to how the UI just looks in general. Thankfully they opted to go a different route for the Apple TV but I miss the better functionality of the Roku or the Fire TV, I just can’t handle navigating that UI.
Ive tried playing with Emby, I had used Kodi (XBMC) for years and Plex is definitely the solution, I just wish they would either allowing more customizations to the UI or work on making the UI pop a lot more, and work on speed of accessing things like clicking 10 times to get into your library. Maybe some things have been added to the new interface since the last I looked (December), but last I recall it was clunky and not very visually appealing in today’s world.
I love my Pi but it’s not a solution for non-tech people. I currently push my family and friends to the new Roku stick and the Apple TV (since it hands down has the best looking Plex experience for a streaming device that’s not a PC/Pi)
I like the new UI, for the most part. The whole “Discovery” thing is useless, but it’s easy to bypass. I too am happy to hear elan’s comment on horizontal scrolling, but I think the new UI is far superior to the old (referring to Roku, my primary player), and will get better as the features we lost get added back in.
