Recently released episodes not appearing in Continue Watching

Server Version#: Version 1.32.6.7468

Hello All, Has anyone noticed that Continue Watching has been playing up lately? For example, when a new season of a show is release they are more often than not showing up in Continue Watching.

I have seen other posts about this from a while ago, but no resolution.

I have “Weeks to consider for Continue Watching” set to 104.
I have “Include season premieres in Continue Watching” turned on.

I’ve tried turn off Include season premieres in Continue Watching, restarting the server, turning it back on and restarting but that didn’t help.

I’ve also tried to repair/optimise the database. No luck.

Any other suggests on how I can t-shoot?

Thanks

I just tried to export my database and reimport via sqlite. Still have the same issue.

Does anyone know how this works in the database? I want to try t-shoot the issue but have no information on where to even start.

Thanks

His utility should do a few more things then what you possibly did.

Continue watching should work based on I believe the metadata views table and then a calculation that the last episode of something you’ve watched falls within your 104 weeks AND the next episode is available (that’s my simplistic logical reasoning, but as I don’t work for Plex or have that actual knowledge it is really just a guess on my part).

I just tried his script, no luck :frowning:

I hope someone from Plex can help point me in the right direction. Others have the same issue so it could be an intermittent bug.

If i go to the last ep of the previous season of a show. Untick watched and retick watched… The brand new season then shows up in continue watching…

That’s suggesting there is some bug somewhere ?

What apps or devices are you seeing this?

Continue watching is not working on any of my android mobile devices

It’s showing items I watched 2 months ago but nothing new.

After something is watched you can see a quick flash of the correct continue watching but it disappears and goes back to being stuck on the old items

If you’re seeing this on all your devices including android TV, Plex Web, or Plex for Windows it might be an unrelated problem

I’m seeing it on all devices incl web so it sounds like this is unrelated to your issue

Have a look at the play history for a problematic series. Does it show what you expect (all episodes played)?

Currently, as implemented, if you mark a show as unwatched, Plex will also delete its entire play history for all its episodes. This may have the knock-on effect of causing it to not be visible in continue watching when a new season rolls around.

I’ll look next time i noticed it. I already fixed the existing ones by marking the last ep as unwatched and re marking as watched.

Ok, i had some time to look into this.

I can see watch history for naked and afraid but it is not showing up in continue watching…

I then unwatched and rewatched a ep and it instantly showed up.

Any ideas on how i can t-shoot why this is happening?

It has happened again for several other series.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it? it’s driving me crazy.

It’s a strange problem, to be sure. I’ve not ever seen something similar on my own server/clients.

Database issues were the first thing I thought of given the problem description, but since you’d performed a repair before posting, I discounted that. It may however be worth you having a look at your relevant Plex Media Server.log file to see if it reports a “corrupted” or “malformed” database. You should just be able to search for either/both terms to see if the condition is detected.

Another thing which might be interesting would be to “reset” your continue watching hub when the issue next occurs. That is, set the “Weeks to consider for Continue Watching” to 0 on each server contributing to that hub; then restart the server and refresh/reload the client. You’ll know you got this right if there is no longer a continue watching hub. Then set it back to 104(?) and restart the server/clients again.

Regarding your example above (Naked and Afraid), your watch history shows that you watched the season 15 finale (episode 11). What should have shown in continue watching after that? Is it your expectation that some other unwatched episode should have shown (episode 9, perhaps?) next?

Hi,

Confirming no “corrupted” or “malformed” errors in the log.

I haven’t tried to reset, i will try that the next time i see this issue.

Re Naked and Afraid, that was just an example. I expect that if i watched all the eps of the last season that when there is a brand new season it shows up in continue watching. In other words how the season premieres feature is meant to work.

I’ve been using plex for many many years, it has been fine in the past, this issue only just started happening 3-4months back.

Any update to this?

It’s been doing this for years, has to be a fix for it somehow?

This is driving me crazy. I am missing new shows as continue watching seems to work for some and not for others…

Anyone know how I can t-shoot this issue? @ChuckPa i see you often respond to unusual issues… any guidance you can provide?
