I’ve had to move Plex around my system more than once and each time I reinstall the server it forces me to create a server name. I’d rather be given the option to reclaim an existing server first – so Plex doesn’t create another server with the same name, each time. Yes, I know to delete the old server from Devices but still… I have to tell my users to sign out and back in to their apps to recognize the ‘newest’ server.
Backup the registry branch and restore it on the new machine/install before starting the installer.
If you also backup the whole Plex data folder and move it to the new machine, your users won’t even notify that something changed.

If you move the Plex data folder to a separat hard drive/SSD beforehand, the process becomes even simpler, because you can grab this drive and move it to the new server. Asssign it the same drive letter as before.
Then restore the registry branch and install the server software. Done.
Ah, okay. I forgot that everything’s in the registry now. Thanks!
I was only backing up the data folder… all 800,000 files in there. I just moved them to internal SSD.
