Why are the recorded file sizes so large? I mean 8gb for a 1 hour TV show seems quite excessive to me. I searched for an encoding option to adjust the quality or something but haven’t found one. For now I take the recorded file and run it through handbreak to make it more “normal” sized.
Without knowing where you are located not sure about the TV broadcast format. Most OTA video in the US is transmitted in mpeg2 while results in huge files. Depending on the tuner device you are using you might be able to have the tuner transcode to h264 before sending the video to Plex. There is also an option in tuner setting in Plex to Transcode While Recording, on some underpowered systems this can cause long delays in the video finishing and being placed in the library for viewing.
