I know Plex has integrated into Tivo. However I would like to request one further round of integration where the feature allows shows recorded on tivo to be transferred into a location (ie - the /TV folder/category) in plex alongside with the rest of my tv/video stored in plex.
Extra bonus would be to also strip out the commercials.
If that is even possible, I’d be over the moon.
Streaming Tivo has always been something I’ve wanted, but the added cost and setup with Tivo (mocha network, Tivo Stream, Tivo mini’s etc) has always dissuaded me. I got excited when reading about a Tivo Online, Tivo Stream, but I seem to remember it was limited to some shows streaming within the local network only due to broadcast copyrights. Since Plex on Tivo is a client, I don’t see that client being able to pull anything from the Tivo. But perhaps there’s a way for the server to pull them in like Tivo Desktop can transfer recordings. But then in skimming this morning for Tivo Stream, Tivo Online, it seems there’s still limitations on what can be streamed and/or transferred with Tivo Desktop due to copyright limitations embedded in the broadcast and observed by the Tivo. I think Tivo Stream is also limited to one stream outside the home.
So Tivo’s version of streaming is still complicated and limited, but I don’t think Plex would be able to extract anything more out of Tivo due to Tivo’s current copyright observance/broadcasts limitations. I think we’re in the same scenario as a VCR manufacturers in the 80’s+ having to include technology to prevent copying tapes. So until the copyright/streaming battle catches up to today’s mobile lifestyles, I don’t see it possible with the Tivo as they have to observe this or they wouldn’t be allowed to legally provide the content at all??
+1 here for this feature. Now that Plex can pull from HDHomeRun, Tivo should be some simple adjustments (depending on Tivo’s willingness to work with them). There are open source solutions for pulling shows off of Tivo and removing the Tivo wrapper. I would love for Plex to integrate with the Tivo’s in some way. There seems to be at least some sort of partnership since the Plex client is feature on Tivo units. Hope to see this someday!
