TiVO Stream 4k + Plex Live TV & DVR integration

I would love if these would integrate, since I love the TiVO interface and Plex. Also having the TV Shows and Movies integrated into the TiVO Stream 4k interface would be awesome!

I have ordered a 4k stream. It should be here Saturday. Although you will probably be able to install Plex on it since it is an android box, it will not have universal search like Amazon, hulu, Netflix and a few others have. So, if I am looking for “Avengers”, it will show me the various media sources that are showing “Avengers” and all I have to do is click on it to watch it. Plex will not be included on this. I wish it was but since Plex abandoned Tivo’s DVR long ago I doubt Tivo will be too kind to Plex now. And who can blame them.

Just got mine and was pleasantly surprised. There is some decent integration. From the home TiVo screen it does display recommendations from Plex and will find content in Plex when searching. It seems to get hung up when entering Plex and needing to select a managed user, however. I’d like to see integration progress. I’d like to see Plex content withing the TiVo Stream App as well.

Did Plex abandon TiVo or did TiVo stop paying Plex to develop the app? I imagine a small fraction of Plex users are on TiVo. I fully accept I am in the minority here (TiVo & Plex user).

Glad to hear there is “some” integration. Time will tell, I guess.

Would love to see a photo of the screen with the integration. I received my Stream 4k last week, but was unable to get one thing to show up in the TiVo Stream app’s search, from Plex.

Thanks for the feedback, please update when possible.
I will be purchasing the Stream since you confirmed it will at least connect and play Plex media.
This streaming thing is a new bold move for Tivo, if they can’t link the Plex media database they will die a slow death. I’m assuming there will be challenges, like multiple Plex servers, local network servers vs. Internet based, media quality decisions such as pulling a 4k stream from an internet based Plex most likely just won’t work and the local server with a 720p version would be a better choice.
Tivo is going to have to step up their software game to accomplish the “No App Switching” promise, switching to Plex will be by their definition “Epic Fail”

After playing with it more I guess I may have been over optimistic in what I was seeing. I thing the home screen you see at power on is more the navtive Android TV home screen. One of the channels is a Plex channel that has a handful of recommendations. It looks like it is just some of the items on your Plex home page when you open it. It only updates if you open the Plex App. I am able to open the content from this menu. I have to select my Plex user, then it starts playing the content.

The Stream app does not have integration to Plex. I also have an HD HomeRun for Live TV. While I can use the Plex App or an HD HomeRun app to use it, the TiVO stream app has no knowledge of it.

From the Android TV home screen, if you search for a movie or show you have in your Plex DVR, it will find it and indicate it is available on Plex. When I open it from here, it has me select my Plex user and then dumps me to the Plex home page. I have to then find the content again.

Now I’m a bit disappointed. It isn’t really much better than my Roku or Amazon Fire TV from a functionality stand point. It feels a little more comfortable, and access to content a little more friendly, but I wouldn’t call it ground breaking yet. There is some potential if more things integrate to the stream app. I haven’t played that much with the stream app just yet, been exploring only the use of Plex as I’ve been watching my OTA / DVR stuff recently.

Thanks for the update, I signed up for the 7 day sling trial, I have YouTube.TV family plan. There was big hype about Tivo Stream pre CV, I may end up returning it after the 7 day trial citing poor Plex integration or dump YouTub.tv. Yes app switching is annoying but spending extra money for streaming at this time for me is not a good idea.

I just received mine today. Seems fast and a deal for the price. However, it doesn’t direct stream video in Plex (that I can figure out), so none of my 4k content plays without transcoding to 1080p.

Same videos play flawlessly on the Nvidia Shield direct as 4k. A little bummed, but not sure if that is a device limitation, or something that can be fixed with time and a Plex app update.

So far I’m super happy with this little $29 box And I have three Nvidia Shields. Don’t get me wrong it has a little bit of hiccups setting up but once it’s set up it runs live TV for Plex really well and I’ve been able to run 4K videos with no problem.
