Recording indicator

When I have to reboot my server, I check the top of my Plex Web page to see if the status is lit orange to indicate that anyone is streaming or transcoding for sync. Now with DVR, I have to take an extra step into the Program Schedule to see if anything is currently recording.

Would it be possible to add a top icon, next to the status or nearby, to indicate that the DVR is currently recording?

I like that idea except you don’t really need another icon. Just add another status message for recording. If show was recording and someone was streaming a show, then the Status icon would be orange and have a 2 next to it.

Yeah, merging it into the status icon would work too. There’s already a number there when there are multiple items being played, or prepped for sync. A small red “record” circle around there would be helpful, or just adding a number to what’s already there works. I don’t need to specifically know that it’s recording, while it wouldn’t hurt to know, I just don’t want to interrupt anyone’s watching if I can avoid it.

Great idea.

Thanks, passed along

Yes great idea another note of support for this.

I would take this one step further and pop up an alert if you try to quit PMS while a recording is in progress. Surely people don’t want to inadvertently abort recordings.

Yep brilliant idea.

Great Idea!

I’d like to see the icon change while there is a record in progress. A red record button overlayed? and if the PMS is streaming a green play arrow?

I’d like to add my 2 cents. It’s now about a year and a half later; I’m now on 1.11.2 and it does not show recording status under the status icon or page. Only in the “Recording Schedule” page. If anything, I think interrupting a recording is an even bigger problem than interrupting something streaming. Viewing content can always be resumed where it left off, but a recording is ruined and cannot be resumed if interrupted.

Yeah, it’s a shame we have pretty great ideas such as this and then it takes about 3-4 years for Plex to implement them. sigh
