It looks like when you record a lengthy tv show, plex will NOT save it to TV show library, but to a library that you have probably designated as a ‘film’ category.
I was trying to record a formula one race show and these are always about 2hrs or more…so i reckon it thought it was a movie. It gives me a list of libraries to select from a dropdown, but none are TV Show. If i was to record a 30 min show, it defaults to TV show.
Plex will save it according to how it is listed in the guide. If it is listed as a show, it will go tot he show folder, if it is listed as a movie, it goes to a movie folder. You can’t override this. You can manually move it if you wish.
thanks…what is Plex looking for (or where would it get the info from) that dictates this? It seems pretty poor that you can’t overide this ‘default’ setting…
Is it a case of ‘sports’ = ‘film’ then? I’ve clicked into random
sports shows, long or short and it always does this.
It solely depends on the EPG.
If the EPG has an airing marked as ‘tv show’, then Plex uses that information and puts the recording of that airing into a tv show library.
Is there any way to prevent Plex from using Gracenote…I’m not sure why it asks users to point it towards xml files etc that we may subscribe to, when it uses Gracenote.
I’m constantly having issues with it…mostly with sport and scheduling to record sport shows. It seems to think I’m trying to record the same show albeit on different days (just because it’s got the same name?) and ignores the record request. That plus my previous note of it thinking it’s a film or something…
You can use your own XMLTV if you want, but this has to be configured at the start. You can’t change your mind after. So you would need to remove your DVR and start over, then you can choose to provide your own XMLTV files.
I am wondering if this guide is applicable outside of the USA. I live in Australia. I currently use Windows media Server as my PVR and have Plex set up to see the folder with TV recordings. I like the way the Media server offers up the guide with channels - rather than just listing the shows. I have not tried using the Plex recording system but I am concerned it may not be able to handle the shocking scheuling we have here - with programs often not sticking to the guide’s times. Hence we allow an hour or some more at the end of each show so we catch the end. We do not have end of show tagging mandated here.
I’m in Australia myself, and I’ve found the guide in Plex to be as good as the Freeview one. I personally use IceTV, but I’ve been using them since before Plex DVR existed. That particular HDHR Premium offering isn’t available in Australia from memory, so you’re best to use the guide in Plex, or something like IceTV.
I’m also using IceTV - it’s a great service.
HOWEVER there seems to be a problem at the moment (not sure when it crept in).
Their guide correctly displays a program as a series - yet plex shows it as a movie.
This is an annoying pickle as you’re not able to record a series of movies.
The program i’m trying to record is indeed a series.
As it stands now I need to do a one-time record of the ‘movie’, shift it to another folder then record the next week as a separate recording…
How would I get someone to look at that?
Of course I might a complete numpty and am doing something wrong. This is entirely possible.
I did contact IceTV and they confirmed it as a Series in their listing.
Thoroughly enjoying Plex.
In the scheme of things if this all I problem with - happy days!
Huh. That’s interesting… It shows as a series on my server
After Ten rebranded all their stations, I did delete and set up my DVR again, so I could rescan, and have the channels correctly named. It might be worth giving that a shot, and seeing if it makes a difference. I also disabled 10, and only kept 10 HD.
yeah okay - I’ll delete my DVR and will check,
I did recently do it though when I re-enabled IceTV (I was using Gracenote and FTA EPG (I think) with the same server… Perhaps there’s a left over from Gracenote?
Will let you know ASAP.
So… I deleted the DVR settings, rebooted and re-established the DVR tuners and IceTV Guide.
I also disabled channels that I don’t need to have visible.
All good!
